Because it is SO toxic. Any substance that is addicting is also toxic to the tissues of the body: Nicotine, Morphine, Heroin, Opium, cocaine, alcohol, and sucrose. It has to do with the toxic substance reacting with the brain cells that releases natural brain endorphins, which are like the body's own morphine. For some reason, (science doesn't know all the details), this causes the body and brain to react with addiction.

I guess something is addicting when it makes you feel good...
But, like all addiction it must be stopped. IF food is to be defined (and it should be) as something that we intake for the nutrition of our body then, CAUTION: White sugar ISN'T FOOD.
The chemicals they use to make it white is actually a major factor in destroying our liver, and with a destroyed liver Diabetes and a number of other diseases is at your door.
Honey and brown sugar has always been the choice, but again, in moderation.
