I'm currently taking:

Benicar
Metoprolol
multi-vitamin
fish oil-supplements

I'd like to add the following herbs and enzyme:

Ginseng
Ginkgo Biloba
St. John's Wort
Co Q-10

Is it safe to take all of these medications and supplements together?

First, in response to Dr. J - Co Q-10 is Co-ENZYME Q-10...lets just hope that guy's not really a doctor ;)

The thing to remember about herbal and natural products is that they are not regulated as drugs by the FDA and therefore do not have to be tested for efficacy and many times do not contain what they claim to or contain a minute amount of what is claimed. All natural products should be used with caution and you should contact your doctor or pharmacist about these.

While there are proven effects shown with St. John's Wort, it is highly reactive with other medications and in and of itself produces very bad side effects in the majority of the population. Ginseng is also known for its bad effects and there is little creditable scientific proof that it actually works. Ginkgo Biloba is less likely to interact with your other medications, but can cause gastrointestinal problems. Co Q-10 isn't very well studied, but should not cause problems with your other medications.

Jenn is absolutely correct. St. John's Wort should not be touched, especially when taking other medications.

Personally, I wouldn't add any of those, but if you insist on doing so check with a pharmacist first.

Best thing to do with no medicine at all but use natural foods as your medicine unless you're realy ill from some sort of genetic disorder. Organic foods and vegetbale works very well to keep the body in good health.
