It goes to your stomach, not back to your lungs, so it wouldn't cause more coughing.

Spit it out.
Yes, it goes to your stomach if you swallow it.
But what happens to it in the stomach?
Are the stomach acids strong enough to kill the germs and bacteria?
If stomach acids were strong enough to kill all germs, there would be no such thing as food poisoning.
Some bacteria love to live in the stomach, it's a nice warm safe place for them to breed.
Just spit it out.
If nothing else, just think of all the empty calories which are in each glob of phlegm that you're swallowing.
*BLEH!*

Usually if you swallow your phlem it will be passed through your feces. Occasionally (usually in children) you will sometuimes vomit the phlem out but that usually is after a tummy ache, so yes, spit it out!

Eh..nothing occurs if you swallow it, but it is better to get it out, but if you can't at the time, it's not bad to swallow it.

its no longer undesirable or risky, its kinda gross even with the actuality that, it may aggravate your abdomen if something. in basic terms spit it into the sink or a kleenex, and in basic terms keep doing that, it may help somewhat.
