I started weight watchers about 4 months ago and have decided to go very low fat. Now when I take a break from dieting and eat french fries or a chicken leg instead of a low fat snack, I end up with diarrhea. What causes me to do this?

I have lost 22 lbs and lost a big part of my appetite. I feel sick and nauseated when I eat greasy food. I about threw up over some KFC today. It was too much grease and I never want to see it again.

One reason it may be is because there might be a lot of artificial sugars in your new diet. In artifical sugars, there is a substance called Sorbitol. However, while this is used for artificial sugar, hospitals use it for a laxative. This may be one cause.

Note*If this is a personal problem for you, I strongly suggest you see a doctor before taking any action, as a problem can only be properly resolved by direct examination by a phsyician.

This is happening because your giving your body with the french fries alot of grease and FAT! It's putting your body into shock. When you reduce the fat and greasy foods you eat your body's digestion changes. It no longer can absorb it the same way it used too when you ate it more often. Your getting diarrhea cause your body is reacting to the fat and grease. It like if you stopped eating candy or sugar completely for a long time say a year, when you ate it again and did it in the equalivate to the fat in the fries then you'd have a sugar high. And it would make you sick. Your body is getting used to not having the fats and calories so stop shocking it and ruining your diet. If your doing a 2000 calorie a day diet or less then one order of fries is going to take all your caloric intake up for the day. And to not go over your caloric intake for that day you couldn't eat anything else. Leave the fries and fries chicken alone, or put up with the diarrhea.

If you are eating greasy/fatty foods and that is when you notice the diarrhea it could be your gall bladder acting up, but most likely it is just from you changing your diet. Congrats on doing weight watchers!

Your system is not used to the fats anymore...thats why its reaction to those "foreign" objects is to get rid of it as fast as possible. You have to stick to your healthy way of eating and have a rewarding healthy life ahead of you. Dont be tempted to go back to your old ways. If you have to taste a bit of what you used to eat, dont eat a full meal of it...just take a small portion. Good luck.
