Under the laws of Kashrus, an animal must have cloven hooves and chew the cud to be kosher. An unkosher animal is one that may not be eaten and is not considered fit for a sacrifice. To state that an unkosher animal is unclean or unholy is wrong in that neither really indicates its status- it is not an animal that could be designated as a sacrifice- but that does not mean it is unholy, merely that it is not holy.

A few animals are picked out as examples to prevent confusion- the pig and camel notable amongst them. The camel because it chews the cud but does not have a cloven hoof- from that example using the rules of exposition relating to understanding the torah, we understand that all animals that chew the cud but do not have a cloven hoof are unkosher (such as a horse), the pig is the only example of an animal with a cloven hoof that does not chew the cud.

In a way this explains the particular focus on the pig- it is the only example of an animal that is "kosher on the outside, but unkosher on the inside", it is seen as being a siman (sign) of those things that can tempt us into wrongdoing because they appear ok, but are ultimately harmful to us. As such, the pig is particularly signaled out in the laws of kashrus to the point that even many Jews who are non-observant and don't keep the laws of kashrus otherwise don;t eat pork.

Hi!

well actually pork isn't unholy as what Jews say it is. They actually took it out of context from the bible

moreover, in the new testament, it says there that anything you thank God for is not Unholy. SO as long as you say your graces before eating, pork's great

anyways, seeing that you actually have a lot of experiences with JESUS which is good, Try Catholicism. It really is great knowing that Christ Loves you and will back you up forever

Because in the scriptures of the bible, God deemed pigs and swine to be unclean food, and not to be eaten ( Deuteronomy Chapter 14, Verse 8). But not only Pork is considered unclean...in fact, the entire of Deuteronomy Chapter 14 really lays out very specific laws on what is or is not "clean" (Kosher) food that people can eat. Shellfish and certain type of bird are also out.

Also the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses.

Hello, Three...:

God is a God of love, and He would not ask you to avoid something that was was for your benefit.

For example, God did not tell the Jews all about bacteria and cancer viruses. He said that when anything died of its own accord, DON'T TOUCH ITS CARCASS. If you accidently did, you must wash your body and clothes, and allow time for air drying--this kills germs, by the way.

Likewise, it is impossible for anything to be healthy for food that lives in putrid water laden with its own excreta. Thus, pigs are the most filthiest of critters. Yes, they eat their own droppings, too, and because their skin does not have sweat galnds, it is difficult for toxins to leave their body.

They can transmit tricanosis worms, and once infested, you will eventually wither and die as they eat your flesh and wear out your immune system.

Under the New Covenant, blood was prohibited as food (See: Acts 15). That is another item that God did not want one to eat and the Jews Kosher bled all their sacrifices.

Personally, if I was starving, I'd eat anything I could find, even a snake, but those conditions do not exist now, and I eat a very healthy diet. Avoid excessive fats and oils, Make vegtable proteins my major source of amino acids, a salad every day, and a plate of fruit every morning with breakfast.

The best way for one to live to be 80 is live to be 65. You see, if you lived properly and make it to 65, then you will probably live 15 years longer.

Blessings, OneWay

first thought is that they wallow in their own filth and so were seen as unclean. second thought you have to prepare pork differently (cook better or hotter) than other meats so some would get sick or even die from eating badly cooked/ improperly cooked meat so early men thought God or the Gods didn't want them to eat it. many stories offer pigs as a scapegoat as well Jesus threw the demons torturing a man on an island they crossed the water he calmed into a herd of swine that then jumped into the water and they drowned.

BTW Jesus did not condone the eating of pork he was a Jewish man it was the gentiles who ate pork and because Jesus said we could be saved as the Jew was we were accepted. pork eating is just a gentile thing.

It was not just pigs, but many other animals as well.

Pigs, shrimp, etc--basically anything that was a scavenger (the laws are "only animals that have a split hoof and chew the cud, only fish that have scales AND fins, no birds of prey") is not kosher.

Why are these animals unclean? You are what you eat. Pigs were the filthiest animals at the time--they ate anything and wallowed around in mud and feces. Not very clean. Hence, G-d didn't want us eating pigs.

From what I understand, pork, and other animals, were considered un clean because of the symbolism. If you look at the hooves of the unclean animal, it has two sides. The one on the left symbolizes going to hell, while the one on the right symbolizes going to heaven.

However, if you look at a picture of a clean animals hoof, it is one, and not two, and I believe this is supposed to symbolize only looking towards heaven.

Hope this helps

Many of the Jewish dietary restrictions stem from the desire to reduce disease.
Trichinellosis, also called trichinosis, is caused by eating raw or undercooked meat of animals infected with the larvae of a species of worm called Trichinella. Infection occurs commonly in certain wild carnivorous (meat-eating) animals but may also occur in domestic pigs.
Domestic pigs will wallow in mud and their own feces in order to stay cool, since they lack sweat glands.
Many people look down on pigs because they will eat virtually anything edible.

FYI I'm not Jewish.

Pigs are a very unclean animal, compared to beef, for example. they will eat whatever is put in front of them, as far as I know all kosher animals are (at least in a natural setting) purely herbivores. this ensures that THEIR intake is kosher, (again, at least in a natural setting)

we know *NOW* that pork is signifigantly less-clean bacterially and such than beef or other kosher animals, even fully cooked there are some parasites that can survive in some forms, and without it being cooked, its profoundly dangerous.

Pork is unholy because pig stores 90 per cent of his urine in his skin tissues, that's what a Jew told me..
