I'm going to assume that you want that American style of flavor, so go with Jim beam black, its about as comparable as you can get for about 9 bucks less.(prices may vary)

I don't particularly find Jack Daniels to be a good quality whiskey. I prefer Makers Mark way above Jack and it is only a bit more expensive.

Total pariot, but believe that Canadian whiskey rules...Of course, Crown Royal is at the top of the list.. Schenley OFC is another really good blend ( very light and easy )... Then there is Canadian Mist, a good sipping whiskey.. On the American side, Wild Turkey is a very tasty whiskey, and George Dickell is very good, and reasonable,as well... Southern Comfort is too sweet for my tastes, although Janice really favored it...On the rocks, mixed with Squirt, lemonade, or straight up, cannot miss with a good whiskey.... Cheers....

To get to know what you like from Whiskey it's best to do trial an error. Everybody's tastes are different from each other so sometimes it is hard to advise. However you will be amazed at the difference if you go up a few bucks and see what you get. Best bet is to go to a bar when it's quite or buy a few mini's. At least then you won't be stuck with a full bottle of something you won't like. Try anything from Buffalo Trace.

I really enjoy Canadian Club 12y.o.
Great tasting whiskey, and about the same price as Jack Daniels.

The one I like better than JD is called Wild Turkey Rare Breed. It doesn't have a bite to it when you drink like JD does. Cost a little more but I think it is worth it. You don't even need a chaser with it.
