i am going to be traveling and need to know if i can have my gun in the car-loaded or unloaded

If you have a permit to carry you can have it on you. If you do not have a permit to carry the gun and clip msut be kept seperate, like locking the gun in the glove box.

For hand guns. In the car yes, loaded no. You cannot have the gun in the passenger compartment where it could be possibly be reached by any occupant of the car. Even if the gun is in the trunk it cannot be loaded.
For rifles, they can be in the passenger compartment as long as they are not hidden or coverer in any way. Again they cannot be loaded.
