The AKC is 1,000 times better. The Continental Kennel Club will register any dog, purebred or not.

The AKC is a better registry by far then the CKC. The AKC is a legit registry the CKC is a scam registry..a worthless registry.
AKC is a legit registry, however that doesn't mean that all dogs registered with it are good quality. There are way too many breeders out there that don't care what they breed and as long as the parents are AKC registered and the litter is AKC registered then the resulting pup/dog can be AKC registered..As for CKC it is questionable if most of the dogs in this registery are even purebred. This registery is not endorsed by the breed parent clubs..it is made up of peopel who aren't in good favor with a legit registry or dogs that can't be registered in a legit registry, etc.
Responsible breeders sell puppies on limited registration for a reason...to discourage people from breeding dogs that do NOT meet breed standard...who really have nothing to offer back to the breed by way of advancement. These breeders not only sell on limited but also with spay/neuter agreements as well. Breeders who sell "pet" quality puppies on full registration are NOT responsible and do not have the best interest of their chosen breed in mind. It is because of the responsability of good breeders that the scam registries such as Continental Kennel Club, APDRI and other such worthless registries have come to be.They are a way & means for those people who are less then responsible to register questionable dogs, etc and to scam people into belieiving that they actually have a registered dog when they really don't.

The Continental Kennel Club will register anything if you send them money. They even register mixes like the poo breeds. Silly since the parents were two different breeds so how in the world could the offspring be a purebred, papered pup?
AKC is one of the better registries as far as getting a purebred dog goes. Of course there are breeders who will breed poor quality dogs that have AKC registration so do your research first before buying a dog. AKC papers mean the dog is purebred and although a few people manage to lie (that happens with all registries), the AKC staff do their best to make sure that your pup/dog has an accurate pedigree by requiring DNA profile of popular sires and doing random kennel inspections. AKC papers DO NOT mean that it is a high quality or healthy pup/dog.
CKC - CANADIAN Kennel Club is comparable to AKC. It is the national registry of Canada and AKC is the national registry for the USA. When inquiring about pups with CKC registration, make sure you ask if it is Canadian or Continental.
BTW Do not mistake a dog with limited privilege papers (NOT the same as limited registration) through a reputable registry as being very valuable in a monetary sense. Those are given by some good registries ONLY when proof of spay/neuter is supplied. They are good only for entering performance trials such as agility or obedience. I add this because a neighbor was fooled by someone selling a mutt with these papers. Don't fall for it folks!

The Continental Kennel Club will register a pet rock if you send them their money. Plus their papers do not give you any of the benefits of a dog registered with one of the reputable breed registeries (AKC, Canadian Kennel Club, United Kennel Club) as they can not be shown in confirmation shows or any AKC performance events (although CKC registration may make it easier to get an ILP number which would then make the dog eligible to enter AKC performance events but NOT confirmation events).
As for quality, registration papers do not a quality dog make. A dog can have AKC papers and still have horrendous health problems or awful temperment. And dogs can be registered with the Continental Kennel Club and be an excellent example of their breed. Breed registeries are simply a listing of purebred dogs and puppies of purebred dogs. People can be dishonest and misrepresent their dogs as purebreds and get them AKC registered even if they are not purebred (doesn't happen that often and the AKC has measures in place to try to prevent it from happening at all, but it does happen). The AKC (or any other registery for that matter) does not, as many people mistakenly believe, act as a "policing" force among breeders to make sure that they are breeding ethically and responsibly. The only thing they can do if they feel that a breeder is not meeting their standards for reasonable care is refuse to register their dogs or litters. They can't stop the breeder from breeding, they can't fine the breeder for breaking the "rules" and they can't make the breeder take responsibility for their dogs or puppies.

In my opinion, the American Kennel Club is much better than Continental. Yes, dogs sell for more if they are with AKC rather than CKC. AKC, to me, is more professional. Plus, most people in America who own dogs are AKC registered....not CKC. If you just got a dog, I would recommend registering it to AKC. Hope I could help!

ainawsgsd Did I get that right?
Wow it is good to have someone here who tells the truth! The truth shall set us free from all the nonsense going on.
People it is a free country look at the dogs you are thinking of getting. If you want to breed or show AKC registrations may be important to you providing you get full registrations but to add to what was said by Ainaw....? if you get an AKC dog that has a limited registration you are forced to go APRI or CKC unless the breeder will unlimited them and allow you to breed.
Hence if you want to breed that is something to consider and you would be in the same spot with either dog if the AKC papers were limited on the AKC dog. So the difference would be quality and that you would have to learn to recognize. If you want a pet the only difference is quality and of course anyone you might be buying a puppy from, who was not given a full registration when they bought the parents of the puppy, would be with APRI or CKC. Therefore in order for AKC to stay the top registry breeders must stop limiting registrations. Otherwise we are going to soon be in the minority and we will see nothing but designer mixes and dogs with "other" registries. The Pendulum has swung to far!

The Continental Kennel Club (also known as the "ConKC" and with good reason...) is a scam registry that would register a goat as a Great Dane if you paid them enough money.
Papers from the ConKC are worthless, and are used by backyard breeders and those who don't qualify for (or who have been kicked out of) the AKC in order to dupe clueless people into thinking they're getting something "special" because "it's registered".

It depends on what you intend on doing with your dog in the future. If breeding and selling is your goal, the most valuable ones have AKC registrations. If you want a dog for a family pet only, it does not make any difference. Whether a dog has AKC, CKC, or a mutt with no registration it has no bearing on your dog becoming a wonderful, loving, and loyal pet. When they greet you at the door, kiss you, follow you everwhere and bring joy to your life, what different does it make what initials can go after their name. I had a rescue dog mixed breed, an AKC and CKC registered dogs at the same time and speak from experience.

Puppy mills will register there puppies with the CKC after they have been banned from registering with the AKC.
So, CKC pups are about the same as having no registered dog at all. Yes, the puppies are worth much less and can't be shown in AKC shows.
If you are looking for a puppy stay away from pet stores. There pups are from puppy mills.

The American Kennel Club is very legitimate. It's the AKC.
The Canadian Kennel Club is very legitimate. It's the REAL CKC.
I have never heard of the Continental Kennel Club before, but I have concerns as to it's validity since it's made it's name match the initials of the Canadian Kennel Club.
