Roman Catholic, and you'll get no argument form me on that subject. Mary was the Mother of God and one of the most beautiful role models of all time for believers. Her faith, trust, loyalty, and love were magnificent.

Pastor Billy says: I already see slight heretical answers popping up in avoidance to your clearly worded question.

Mary is mother of God! why is she mother of God? because authentic and orthodox Christianity proclaims Jesus to be God. The strongest reason for the Sanhedrin to seek Christ's death was not because he was seen a son like any other (since the priests and scribe were themselves sons of God) but because he was being proclaimed God and claimed it himself. "I am the I am" The ancient title Theotokos was given to Mary because she is rightly the bearer or God carrier. To say Mary is only the mother of Jesus creates another great heresy of dividing Jesus into 2 persons which is not the case and naturally leads to the next question from an orthodox Christian which is, when was Jesus not God? Jesus is one person with 2 natures hence once again Mary is rightly called Mother of God, end of story.

edit: I'm Catholic and it is really sad to see so many misinformed and wrong perceptions on Marian doctrine posted to this question, such as additional children of Mary, that believing in Marian doctrine teaches Mary didn't need a savior, that Mary is some how made God in ritual and with titles such as mother of God etc etc...

I really wish people would spend more time examining what they think they have a right to attack just so they are absolutely sure they are attacking the right thing. All Marian doctrine starts with Jesus, if you're a Jehovah Witness I don't expect you to accept the title of mother of God as you reject Jesus is God but if you are Catholic or Protestant(which includes Baptists, Evangelicals, Pentecostals, and non-denominationals just in case you think your aren't) you had better accept and proclaim Mary to be Mother of God as this title rightly protects the Christology authentic Christianity has always taught.

Mary was the mother of Jesus. Jesus was the son of God Jehovah. If Mary were Gods mother then wouldn't that make her higher then God? Therefore Mary must have just been Jesus(son of God) mother and Jesus could not have been God. Does it make sense? NO EXACTLY

Yes I am a Bible dispensationalist. If you are honest to the Bible you become a literalist for God is not a God of confusion. (I Corinthians 14:33) Now if God did not mean what He says, why did He say it? But the Bible never said that Mary, became the mother of God or else it will defeat God's sovereignty and infinity of no beginning and no ending.
If we want to be sensible enough, then we have to put things in order for no sensible person who will put his future in an statistical monstrocity.

~Let me see, if I follow the mythology correctly, the grand and all-powerful creator of all things boffed a bimbo to create himself - or a clone thereof. All because his own creation, man, was out of control and he was powerless to bring things back in line so he tossed his kid (who is really himself) to the wolves with the bizarre claim that by killing him (or the kid - I must admit my confusion on that one) man would be redeemed. But he, and the bouncing baby boy, were both immortal so the killing was a bogus fraud. Neat trick.

I'll go with Leda and the swan, thank you. At least the rape in that story is more visually interesting and the logic follows much better.

Aren't all christians just lapsed Jews?

I am a deacon in the Divine and Enlightened Congregation of Goobleskeera. Our credo is to act morally, leave the world a better place than we found it, treat our fellow man with love honor and respect regardless of the misguided superstitions they may adhere to and, best of all, any reward we are to reap for our efforts in life will be reaped during our lifetimes. There is no coercive threat of some phoney eternal damnation to keep us in tow. That is unnecessary because we are not hypocrits and we live what we believe (I'd say preach to give you some familiar frame of reference, but we don't preach - we think and reason), and, when we die, we're fertilizer and nothing more.

But I digress. Yeah, Mary was human (and apparently one with a human sex drive). Jesus was too, and not a bad philosopher. Its the rest of the malarky that is devoid of fact, reason, logic, proof or common sense.

Now, be a good christian and don't report me as abusive. I didn't report you. "Do unto others..." "Judge not ..." and all that which you feign to believe in and we live by. And may Goobleskeera bless you and guide you to the path of enlightenment.

Mary, A virgin who gave birth to the Christ who is the Son of God who was in the begining with God a part of the whole of God. I am a Christian follower of Christ who accepted his atonement for my sin

Mary was the virgin vessel of the conception of Jesus the Messiah. She was indeed his earthly mother. Yeat she was not his literal mother. Jesus has not a literal mother. Jesus is the Word of God that existed before the foundations of the earth. He became Flesh yeat it was not his original form. Christ is a part of the father and he is the Father. Mary is created flesh, Jesus is spirit and became flesh.
Mary was a virgin at conception yeat she did not remain one she became the blessed mother of 7 children via joseph.
Thus she is not a virgin forever. That is just catholic pagan teaching of this hour.
My faith I AM a apostle and a prophet of the Lord Jesus.

Atheist. However, as an ex-Christian who was studying for the priesthood, I know that the concept of 'theotokos' (mother of god) predates any schismatic splits. It was one of the earliest traditions held by the group who called themselves "the Followers of the Way," which was the original name of Christianity for quite some time.
