Yes!! Change it gradually. 3/4 old dog food 1/4 new dog food then add more of the new dog food and less of the old each day so they get adjusted to it.
Edit: Well change amounts to what ever your dog eats. [Mine eats 1 cup twice a day..]

It can. Some dogs are fine just switching to a new food cold turkey, but it may cause diarrhea in many dogs. If a dog is fed only one kind of food and nothing (or very little) else, then their stomachs get used to that food and changing it suddenly can upset their system. To avoid that problem, you can switch foods gradually over the course of a few weeks, mixing 1/4 new food to 3/4 old food, then 1/2, then 3/4 until eventually it is only the new food and the old food has been phased out completely.

yes it can upset your Dog ( or cat's) stomach. If you want to switch brands or type of food, you should gradually introduce the food into the dog's diet. It can be done over a week's time. Start with 6 parts regular food and 1 part new food. Every day, increase the new food, so the second day would be 6 parts old food and 2 parts new food. This will allow your dog to gradually adapt to the new food. I have a cat that has health problems and I need to change her food often, so that is what I do to ensure that I am not shocking her system with new types of food.

Yes this is true. You need to gradually switch their food by mixing small portions of the new food with the old. Your suppose to do this over a period pf time (couple of weeks..) If you just switch their food without mixing, they can get upset stomachs, diarrhea, etc.

Yes, it can be true. If you have chosen a high quality diet you'd like to change your dog over to I would recommend slowly blending the 2 foods together, starting w/ just a few kibbles of new food in the current food and then decrease old food/increase new food over about 10 days. That should prevent any vomiting or diarrhea.

Yes its very true. If you are going to switch your dog or cats regular food - you must slowly ween him/her over. For example...give a small handful of the new food w/ the regular food, for the first couple days and then slowly increase it until your dog is weened. Usually about a week... I'd take around 8 or so days and slowly mix in the new food with the regular/old food.

yes. switching dog food can upset a dogs stomach, but not with all foods. read the label on the back of the dog food. if you really want to switch, don't be mad at it if it goes on your floor, until it gets used to the new food.

If you do it abruptly, it can upset the animal's stomach.
It's recommended to begin the switch by mixing it with the food you are currently feeding then slowly add more new, less old.
Of course, if you are changing the diet due to the old food being recalled, then it's a bit harder to prevent an upset stomach.

This is true. Particularly with an older dog. Larger dogs are affected less then toys. Switch foods in stages.

Absolutely! I was told you have to wean them off of the old food while giving them a little of the new food. Depending on the size of the dog, it could really hurt his stomach.
