When I click on ms word, the office 2000 window pops up asking for a cd. The problem started around two months ago. I do not have a cd to install. How can I correct this problem without taking it in to shop-I don't want to get ripped off. I have done system restore before problems happened. Could I have accidently deleted ms word or other compoent that would make this happen. Help Please!

You guys, I do not have a disk to install. When I bought this computer I received no disks. It is one year old and an HP refurbished one which I will never buy refurbished.

Ok I downloaded openoffice and that works fine. I deleted office 2000, BUT now my frontpage is the one window box that keeps popping up just like office 2000 did. But I have the disk for that and could try uninstall and re-install front page. With computers you solve one problem and another pops up.

You have an illegal copy of Office 2000.

Try Open Office instead, it's free and fully compatible with M$-Office.

I would love to know exactly what went wrong too.

No, I bet that you didn't do anything wrong. But here are some things to try.

- If you have a different version of Word installed, then uninstall that. You see, Word came with Microsoft Works Suite, but you might also have a Trial Version of Microsoft Office 2003 on your computer. Unintall those, and REBOOT.

- Uninstall Office 2000, using the disk, then REBOOT
- Get your Windows Updates, but use CUSTOM. Unless you have Internet Explorer 7, avoid getting that. Unless you have Windows Media Player 11, avoid getting that.
- REBOOT again
- Go into the Control Panel, and TURN OFF Automatic Windows Updates. Do this only as a PLAN, rather then randomly.
- Install Office 2000, but pick CUSTOM. When you get to the list of Components, CLICK and pick RUN ALL FROM MY COMPUTER. Then finish the full installation.
- Open each program, one at a time... Word, Power Point, Excel and others to be sure that they all work.

Good luck and Happy Computing!
