Why is it that Americans live in so much fear they feel they have to own a gun to protect themselves. I know it is a constitutional right but I would have to question the the need to arm myself in such an affluent free society?

You didn't say where you live that is so similar to the US. I have lived in a lot of foreign countries in my lifetime. These include Canada, Australia, Great Briton, France Germany, Italy, Egypt, Saudia Arabia, United Arab Emerates, Quate, Japan, Pannama, Brizil, and probably. There are areas in each of the contries that I would not venture into in the dark. Yes there are some places in the US where I don't feel safe, it is simple, I don't go there. I have several guns to my name. I have them for about 5% protection and about 95% fun.
Do you have a lock on your door, do you use it. Isn't the lock a form of protection against some criminal element too.
It isn't that we fear something, we have grown up with a different attitude that you as far as keeping weapons are concerned. I don't think affluence has anything to do with guns. Look at Sommolia, Iraq, Isreal, and a half a dozen other countries, both rich and poor and almost everyone is walking around with an AK-47.

Most Americans don't live in fear. Many people do not own guns and don't think we should own guns. Law abiding citizens own guns so in the event someone breaks in they can protect themselves. Also, many of them engage in gun sports such as hunting. Just because you own a gun doesn't mean you live in fear. I actually feel safer with a gun than without it.

lol i have to laugh. thing is, I remember the argument that said the USA had to embrace communism because only a communist country could guarantee never having nuclear war.
That ticked people off. When they went house to house after Katrina and took peoples guns the **** hit the fan. When they took the guns away in Europe they stabbed each other and last I heard they wanted to outlaw knives next.

unfortunetly we have too many criminals running around that are citizens , and now we are getting over run by lawbreaking illegals that cannot be trusted, they commit crimes to get here, they would do anything!!!
