Should I give up on believing in God?

Question

I don't know if he is real. I'm not sure if I believe in him or not any more.

P.S. I don't think I've been a good Christian lately either. This one girl said I could possibly go to hell because once I was angry and said God's name in vain because she pushed me. Once she also said that because I lied it's a sin (yet she lies A LOT). I am tired of her judging me. She makes me feel like a horrible person and a bad Christian.

Well ask for forgiveness. If you don't know if hes real your not a Christian anyway. You should pray for salvation.

You're not a horrible person. Or, at least, you don't sound like one. As you are finding out, christianity can be too easily used to hurt and to control a person.

Let me say up front that I am an Atheist and I would have no problem with you becoming one as well. However, I would suggest that maybe you just need some time away from the whole god thing. Find some people whose lives don't revolve around church.

You might try to study relaxing a bit. There's a book I recommended earlier today - "Wherever You Go, There You Are" - that talks about how to meditate in everyday life. You might gain a new perspective, or at least a better appreciation for the people and things around you.

Most importantly, try to feel better about yourself. Remember, Jesus said "love your neighbor as yourself." Not more than yourself. Not less than yourself. As yourself. You sound like you could use a bit more self love.

You shouldnt give up believing in God. He is as real as the wind. You can not see it, but you can feel it and see the effects it has caused on things and people. But you know that wind is real. The same with God. You cant see it, but there are times that people can feel His precense, and/or see the effects he has caused to the earth {flood,ect} and on people in their lives. No Christian is perfect, because we are all the same..human beings. Well, with the thing with that one girl, shes right and wrong. I mean one of the 10 commandments is to not take Gods name in vain. But if you repent to God in an honest and holy way, you will be forgiven. That girl honestly sounds like a hypocrite then. Lying is on of the things to NOT do in the 10 commandments. But the same goes for lying as every other sin. Repent to God and ask for forgivenss if you truely want it and want to try to better yourself and your life. Do not let someone who is a hypocrite push you around making you feel like a horrible person and a bad Christian. We all make mistakes, thats why we arent perfect and cant get to heaven without the help of Christ Jesus. Really you should not give up on believing in God. I know at times it feels like you should, but you really shouldnt. There is a God either you want to believe it or not. You need to give it another try and not listen to this girl who is telling you all this. She is making you feel worse and not helping herself by acting as a hypocrite. Turn to God when you are confused and hurting, ask Him to show you an answer to your prayers and an answer to if Hes really real. He will show you it in time when He and you are ready!!!!!

Don't you ever give up!! Don't let any one make or break you down. Believe me, all Christians go through alot. But its more then worth it in the end. Next time she starts JUDGING you, sin, and put your hand up and say say it to the hand cause the face don't want to hear it. Then walk away. You are human, you will do things wrong, everyone does. That's why God put Jesus down here, to die on the cross and shed his blood so we can be FORGIVEN. When you mess up, go to God, ask for his Forgiveness. Thank him for giving you to chance to be forgiven. You have very little FAITH, and alot starts with faith. The more you try, the better you become. You need to understand you can get all your strength through God. Get a better relationship between you and him. He has never given up on you, so why would you even think about giving up on him. Think, where do you want to spend eternity? Never give up cause things are not easy. Go to God with them. Look at them as tests to make you even stronger in Gods way. I wouldn't recommend giving up a belief system because one person you know in that faith is a jerk. Saying God's name in vain once will not get you a ticket to hell, neither will lying once. Well, if they are sins everyone will be in hell, too so you will have lots of company.

I like the first response. First, decide who you think god really is. Start reading spiritual books. Figure out who you are. If you believe that you were made by the divine, then some of that divinity must be within you. Call to that to figure out who you and the divine really are and what that relation should look like.

Worshiping a book made by men will get you nowhere. Know thyself. All the rest will follow.

You should never judge a faith/church based on it's members/believers. People are flawed. God is not. Your beliefs are between you and the Lord. Pray. Attend different religions. Pray about each one and let the Holy Ghost tell you what is true. There are many Christian religions to try. Try them all. Lutheran, Baptist, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints... investigate and pray.

First off do you even know were you acquired your belief in a god? You were born an Atheist you were not born a christian you were taught to believe in a god. That brainwashing belief came from your parents,guardians,friends,
preachers,priests,Cult Leaders one or more of those people. Also they probably fed you santa clause, easter bunny, tooth fairy and all the other unmentioned fairy tale characters .YOU really should give up your belief in god. This god is nor male or female it is an idea a very horribly unintelligent idea created by power hungry, stupid, and arrogant men who had nothing else to do with their pointless lives besides creating bullsh*t beliefs and stories about a god or supreme being. This all powerful invisible thing had supposedly
lived on earth yes on this damn planet some 2000+ years ago very ridiculously made up story. In the book of BS called the bible a contradictive book which is full of bullsh*t stories such as a world flood, walking on water, a talking burning bush a big boat with all the damn animals on earth! , a talking snake, virgin birth, and other fairy tale stories some of those stories have roots to similar stories of the pagan times that is very pathetic stealing the pagans bullsh*t stories. Those stories do not sound like bullsh*t to you? I think if any person is going to buy the god, gods, goddess, jesus ,etc fairy tale nonsense they first need get off all the drugs they have been using and start using their brain and quit believing in fairy tale stories as truth . Don't allow this girls's concept of God as a stern judge ruin your feelings about Him. She sounds like a negative influence.
So, you got angry and said His name in vain----you made a mistake---we all do. He knows you better than she knows you, so be confident in your beliefs, whatever they may be. He is not the jerk she makes him out to be.

first of all who is your god? The girl or God the Father. Enough with that petty stuff. Do you know why you feeling far away from God is because of a 3 letter word called sin. It seperates you from Him, God doesn't go anywhere, it's you. So get your eyes focused back on God, repent and trun from your sins, and that stuff you're doing and you know it isn't holy. Get into the Word and pray!
