WHY did the boyfriend give you this necklace? If it was given to you as a 'gift' on your birthday or a holiday, it's YOURS and you may keep it or give it back or throw it away. If it was to 'show your love' for each other then YOU MUST RETURN IT ... by mail or a 'neutral messenger' ...
The 'cost' of something like a necklace 'doesn't count' but the WAY it was given, and the WHY make all the difference in the world.

If it was bought around a holiday and given as a gift for that holiday then you do have to give it back. If he just bought it for you on some random day then you do not have to give it back. Jewelery like that should have the same rules as an engagement ring. If it was worth more and he wanted it back he could take you to court over it.

Depends on whether your boyfriends wants it back or not. If he does, then make a compromise as so:
You give the encklace back, but your ex-boyfriend gives you half the price of the necklace, $25.
If he wants you to keep it, keep it.
If he doesn't say anything, don't say anything until he mentions it.

If you feel guilty or uncomfortable having it and not him, yes, give it back. If the necklace is a family heirloom, give it back. If he gave it to you just because he wanted to, you do not have to give it back. If he gave it to you with some sort of promise attached and the promise is broken, give it back.

if he JUST gave it to you, then yes, but if it's been over a month, no. he gave it to you, its YOURS. i have about 3 different necklaces from guys and I'm sure they don't want it back, what would they do with it? Enjoy it or give it to someone else.

Keep it, he gave it to you as a gift so it's yours. When my boyfriend broke up with me I kept all the jewelry and gifts he had given me and he kept everything I had given him. It's a token of what was good in your relationship at the time, not something that was given to you on loan until you broke up, keep it!

You could ask him if he wants it back. However if it was given to you as a birthday present or christmas present technically you don't have to give it back unless you choose to do so. If you just plain do not want it try giving it back.

Why would you give him a girls necklace back? It was a gift to you - so keep it. I would only give it back, if he asks for it back.
