If so, when I notice a man who is brilliant does my heart sin?

I was just reading from "A very beautiful day" and I can't stop wondering about A.E. and all the thoughts he had.

In a few religions, it's pretty hard to get through the day without commiting some sort of minor 'sin'.
Nothing unforgiveable, especially not if you routinely ask forgiveness I'd imagine. ;)

Men are attractive. This reality shouldn't be dismissed or denied. Instead we need to ask why. Why is his good looks alluring? How much irresistible force does his good looks put upon our selfish desires? In searching for our selfish desires does his good looks cause us to lie to ourselves about our desires and tempt our actions?

Looking at a good looking man isn't bad. What's wrong is the lust in the human heart and the desire to foster the lust. Lust is a selfish desire for our satisfaction only. Like chocolate. Some abstain because they know they're weak (it's their cross/ addiction). A little chocolate won't make you fat but if you eat chocolate every day in large quantities will make you obese.

With a man's brilliance (humor, manners, charisma, ect) women too can over romanticize his brilliance and create lies or lust after something that is a fantasy. This is why most women fall into the romance novels which "They" say is the equivalent to male pornography. This lust and lies can be a lure as strong if not stronger than images.

It's when we look at a person for their totality and accept the strenghts and weaknesses of this individual. The unique dance we get with them in showing what is good and bad within ourselves and offer/receive forgivness when we fall short. That's why most marriage vows (christain and non-christain) have the clauses "Good times and bad times, sickness and health, for richer and poorer, till death do you part".

No, there are millions of beautiful people, it's just when you start lusting after them , that's when the temptation comes, then when you act upon temptation that's when you've sinned. Come on God ain't some hard deity that is ready to cast you in hell because you looked at a man and thought he was attractive. Let's be for real here!

It's like I always say, "Just because you're on a diet, that doesn't mean you can't inhale as you walk by the bakery."

God knows we're human and we appreciate nice looking, intelligent people. He's probably not real bent out of shape by it.

It is normal for most people to appreciate beauty. Lust, now, is a different matter. When a mind lingers on the beauty and thoughts support, and you begin " lusting ", then you have allowed it into your spiritual. Not Good !!!

It is not that lust is bad, lust is good, but it is what we lust after, we can lust after hope, faith, courage, and even our fullness of humanity, but if we lust over greed, dishonesty, disrespect, making others into a fool, that feel good feeling with nothing really being put into it, or over extreme perfect beauty then we better be careful because it may not take long before one takes a fall.

Did you look twice? If so you might have sinned.

yes, so you should cut them out. Does it feel like you are sinning? That might be a good indication.
