Believe me, it will NOT take 1 month for your check to clear! One year when things were tight with us and we had to send a check to the IRS on April 15, I was hoping it would take at least 3 days to clear and all would be fine! Well, 2 days later it was posted to my bank account! I could not believe that they could do it that fast with all the returns that they were processing! I could barely cram our return in the mailbox because it was so stuffed full of last minute returns! So-be careful and don't take any chances...make sure it is covered before it gets to your account!

The last time I paid by check, it cleared in 4 days. That was a few years ago, though.
These days checks are normally cleared electronically and will clear the same day that your return is opened at the IRS Service Center or the next day at most.

Hard to tell. Consider the money as being out of your account, though, when you write other checks, so you don't bounce something. Don't count on having a month for the IRS check. Sometimes it's real slow, but can be pretty quick.

Forget about how long your friend said it took her check to clear. Assume that it will clear in just a couple of days like any other check. It costs too much in overdraft fees to take any chances.

It won't take a month to clear. The check is stripped off as soon as the envelope gets there and the check is cashed.

It depends on your bank, if you use a credit union it can take longer if you use Bank of America it could go through fast. Get online banking and watch for it.
