This is a logical guess. Since the Islamic religion does believe in books of the Old Testament, I would assume there would be some kind of reverence toward Jerusalem.

Mecca is an old city in an even older civilization.

It was there long before Islam. I hope it is there long after Islam is proven worldwide to be part of the Judeo-Christian mythology and loses its adherents.

They were pagans before Muhammad and his crew came through and converted masses of people, so it really didn't apply. I don't care if you don't like it, they were pagans, they weren't Jews or Christians, so what else could they have been?
