I was drafted in early October 1968 into the U.S. Army, went to basic training, infantry and jump school, served in the northern part of VietNam in I (pronounced 'eye') Corps from Feb to November 1969 with the 101st Airborne. Was medically discharged in April 1970 after being in hospitals in VietNam, Japan and the U.S. recovering from injuries.
So yes, I would have to say I was drafted to go to VietNam.
My response to being drafted? It was quiet resignation, you knew you would have to go, and when the time came, you did. Sure, some guys opted to go to Canada but to me this was my duty to my country and off I went.

No I was not drafted into the Armed Forces I enlisted in the US Marine Corps in June 1966.
Had I waited a month or two I would have been drafted since I was already classified as 1A. I would do the same thing if I had it to do over again even though I had to serve a tour of duty in the Nam as an Infantry (Grunt) Squad Leader.

I joined in 1974 just after the draft.
My cousin was drafted in 1970. The day he got the letter he went to an army recruiter and started the enlistment process. He got a truck mechanic school and spent 3 years in Germany rather than Vietnam. I guess it worked out for him.

Being drafted didn't even enter my mind. I had planned on joining the USAF to get out of Delaware. Went to the recruiter but he was out. The Navy recruiter was in, and I knew him because my gf baby sat for his kids. Best move I made. Got out of Delaware and saw the world..well 32 countries (stationed in three) and saw some more than once. I retired in 1985. I'm STILL traveling around, for my job.

Nope, in my usual good thinking, I enlisted. Hell my draft number was 23 so I was gonna go one way or another. I didn't like it very much on my first tour, so I did another one( the second dumbest thing I've ever done)

Im 57, i was 18 when i 'volenteered for the draft'. It was a sneaky way of joining, but for 2 years. I went because I was a little wildish and safer in the army. We ALL JOIN for other reasons than than the flag.
In 68, when i joined america was on top--the world belived we were pure as much as we believed it. Vietnam was WRONG. I didnt know the CIA started the war at the (gulf of tonlin incident) I didnt know the CIA had killed JFK 4yrs ago. Wouldn't have belived it if you told me. But Im sorry for my part- Its life changing when you KNOW you were LIED too by those you respected.
Im upset that that anyone joins this murder war that so plain as evil. Todays enlistess are older (22ish?). They knew we made mistakes in Nam. Or at least they could have known--just like ANYONE who studies JFK'S death KNOWS it was our govt... if they take the time to study. But instead--they just join--for the GI bill, and harm others for the bushbunch to get EVIL power. Bush sr's 1st govt job was HEAD OF CIA! (get the pic?).
IT doesent absolve me that I did what I did. But at least todays new recruits shd know something may be wrong. And this is just TOO PLAIN.
i would love to fight beside these guys in a GOOD war. As it stands, i dont want to drink a beer with them. Their just too dumb, or mean, or lazy?
I choose my enemies now--its not commies or moslums, they are the finest people. they dont like us messin with them--and it IS US thats doing that.
My enemies are bullies, LIES, and the Ignorant.
Canada is DUE NORTH. I hope that helps.

i didn't serve i would have
i am saddened by the way they were treated so many really don't understand the horrors they went through no wonder so many got messed up how would you like to fight with your hands tied and where they would send 6 year olds with grenades to kill you to survive you had to kill some old young women and children because if you didn't they would kill you
i salute all those who have fought and those who still fight so this land can be
LAND OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE

Nope - I'm a few years younger.
I did have friends who quit high school & volunteered.
Many people who served were drafted however.

Nope...I volunteered and served willingly and proudly. I was disgusted with the cowardly draft dodgers then, as I am now.
