when each day 16,000 children die from hunger--
16,000 a day>33
darfur is ravaged with genocide-
400,000>33
talk about tragedy...there's a real tragedy
when will we wake up and try to help and not blame?
please don't misunderstand- i don't mean to trivialize the VT shootings- it's just that this happens every day in the world- should we be surprised it happens here to?

Thank you for making that point. People hear about Darfur and think "That's messed up...I wonder what's on TV" But when they think "That could have been me..." all of a sudden, it's a big deal.

We're shocked, maybe cos we have a conscience, and a soul, and can feel for our fellow man/woman in a humane way. We are concerned for our safety and those whom we care for. We don't enjoy when these things happen, and who are you to say that we don't feel tragedy over the 16,000 children that die from hunger each day, and the genocide raging in Darfur? If you're so much better than everyone else, get yourself to Darfur and end the genocide, and feed all those hungry people every day. Get off your soap box, and do something about it!

Why shouldn't people be concerned about the VT shootings? Just because there is carnage everywhere else doesn't negate any concern for what happened in Virginia. Your second question, should we be "surprised?" - No, I guess not.
