i'm trying to convince my mom to get me and my little brother a Mac. but she said that she's not sure about it. because it might not have the useful programs on it like Powerpoint, Word, etc. and she's saying that it might not be able to install stuff like programs on disks(printing instanlling, etc). so i'm just asking if it is compatible. because me and my brother want to switch to a Mac. she said that if it can do what a PC can do, then she'll get it. so PLEASE give me a good answer so i can convice my mom, and you can get 10 points.

You could pay for Microsoft Office for MAC.

Or, you could use Neo-Office, it's free and 100% compatible with M$-Office. It reads, edits and saves, Word, Excel and Power Point files.

MAC also runs Firefox, Adobe Reader, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, etc. (all free)

As an experienced Windows, Linux and MAC user, tell your Mom for me that the MAC is a great choice for all of you!!!

One thing that I didn't see in the above posts to consider is any software that you have already purchased. I can't tell from your question if you have already have a PC; because if you do, most of the software you have will probably not work on the MAC. Some software comes with drivers/files for both systems, but most don't.

You may not want to point this one out to your Mom! ;)

They already are. There is a version of Microsoft Office that is compatible with MAC. I'm a windows user myself, but I would actually consider getting a MAC one of these days. You can do everything on a MAC that you can on PC and vice versa.

It depends on what you want to do. The big announcement by Apple yesterday is that the new Apple computers, which now run on Intel chips, will be able to dual boot Mac OS X and Windows XP. If you have the money, it is definately worth considering.

What you can do on PC you could do on mac except repairing mac cost more because more people know about PC than about mac, so tell your mother to buy mac for you and PC for her.
