I'm thinking the closer to death, the more one thinks about God and the eternal.

great question, and lots of good response, i would like to believe that we draw closer to God as we get older, but i see a lot of young people that are really close to Him.
perhaps as we get older we get to know him better.

I think as you approach older age you become wiser and mroe interested in spirituality. But other things can also be a factor. Things like a mid-life crisis. If your life is falling apart. (ex. poor health, financial trouble, relationship in turmoil) You will realize that your previous vision of yourself isn't working and you begin thinking in a different way. You start asking questions You start being interested in spirituality. You might join a religious group or start taking yoga and meditation. Most of the time something must happen to you. If you have a
great life then you don't need philosophy which questions the meaning of life, because you are happy. But when the going gets tough thats when it happens.

As for me, I'm only 17 years old and I began interested in spirituality at the age of 15 when my life was falling apart. When I thought I lost it all. Now I'm in a spiritual group called "New Age".

I know for me and my expierience, yes, I think that people do become more "spiritual" as they get older. But also I know that theres the bad things that happen to us like death, divorce, or illness that put to test the things we believe. I think when someone is 5 years old, they do and dont understand the Bible. They do not understand it exactly the way we do, but they do understand on some level the importances of it. But also as they grow older they learn how to honestly take communion and other important things in life revolving around the church. As we get older we can understand things better as we mature, the same way with spiritual things. But it differs for all people cause we are not all alike.
Hope this helps!!! God Bless

The closer to an almost subconscious concern for the eventualities after death does make people become more spiritual. Take soldiers in action for example, or death row inmates and of course, the terminally ill.

I think so!! I know I have! When you have a lot of life experiences, both good and bad, it's bound to help mold you into the person you ultimately become as you grow older. For me, even though I'm not a "church-goer" I have grown more with regard to my spirituality.

Just read your additional details - that's part of the reason my spirituality changed, I battled my way back from a terminal illness and it changed how I looked at a lot of things!

Depends on the individual, I suppose. I don't think I've become more spiritual the older I get. I'm still just as spiritual as I was when I was a teenager. But I would say that my spirituality has matured.

I'm an agnostic that used to be very religious. I have studied the bible, prayed and sacrificed more than any Christians I know. I have seen too much misery and injustice in the world to believe in a loving God. Sometimes he has a sick sense of humor. Anyone who can see a cripple or deformed person trying to make it through life and they still believe in a just God, has very little compassion.

Lolll it's not old - movies from that time aren't old, just nostalgic. Like the Sims (1) definately isn't old, but some of my friends say that it's acient?? It's not that it's old, it's just that when you play it you feel nostalgic. And to that answerer who says only 13 year olds think that 90s is old - I'm 14 and even the 50's aren't old to me. OLD is before lightbulbs were invented. Whenever that was.

Some studies suggested this. But it is more likely that the older generation simply believes more than the younger (as in, you're more likely to be an atheist if you were born in the 70's or later).

I do, every day more and more. I also live in an area where spirituality is well practiced. It's very peaceful. But that does not mean I eliminated my other believes, I am still a Christian, I just don't belong to any church.

I think you do. My mom recently passed away and when I was younger I was pretty cynical about the world. I think when you start seeing more and more death you become introspective and more open to possibilities. At least this is my personal experience but I know my friends have experienced similar emotions.
