My best advise to you would be to do research. Make sure you know all the side affects about every drug on the list. The drugs may help some of his symptoms but what will it cause. Make sure you make an educated choice. I would also try to find a chat room for mom's of children with AS, I know there are plenty out there that could tell you what they have done.
As far as school goes, don't worry. The school should be providing your son with the best education for him and his unique needs. They should make learning possible for him ~a private aide, change in classroom, special schedule, etc.~ make sure they are doing that with his IEP there are laws for kids like your son; No Child Left Behind!
Good Luck!!

Personally, if it were my child, I would consider what a specialist has to say...but I would then first try alternative (non-medicine) treatment first.
Sometimes changing the diet can really improve hyperactivity. My kids get hyper when exposed to soy, dairy, and glutens. It is simple and non-evasive. Simply start with the simplist, dairy, and remove it completely from his diet for about a week or two. Do symptoms improve? Then try soy...then the most difficult, wheat/glutens.
Also, limiting simple carbohydrates in general (white sugar, cake, white bread, ice cream...you know, junk food) will improve behavior as well.
Good luck!

Research each medicine on the Internet and read any case studies available, parent's blogs, etc. Check if there is an Asperger's support group in your area (there's one where I live) and talk to some of the parents. Ask them which meds were successful with their children. Good luck.

Your son has a form of autism. You need to see a specialist, and I would highly suggest that you join a support group, to learn how to communicate with your son and start him in some special lessons. Autistic kids need special help to get through life, and their parents do, too! You are right to not just make a snap decision on medication. Talk to other parents first in your area.
Good luck to you and God bless.

my daughter has autism and they have never suggested any kind of medicine....but my ped gave me a little trick for my daughter since most children with autism also have adhd or some various forms...give him 4oz of coffee in the morning it will calm him down enough to function. as for the list you may have to experiment and why is your doctor just giving you a list should he be explaining what he advises....

love and attention. Aspergers is not curable but they can function in society. If the doctor reckons he needs meds to help him concentrate - give them to him. There may be a critical period for him to form brain patterns allowing him to concentrate and without the meds this period may pass; then it will be too late. Get him doing things that involve concentration such as painting pictures. read books aloud to him. Get him to interact and question the material as it is read to him.

A doctor gave you a choice of medicine? Shouldn't the doctor be recommending what medication to use?
