I have thick, smooth black hair. But I'd like to try something new, like an afro! I think it would look great...but the point is, how do i get one? Is there any permanant solution?

Get a Perm and Then Tease it.

The only way that you will be able to get an afro that will last is to get a curly perm. Have the stylist use the tiniest rods possible when rolling your hair. The tighter the curl, the better. After the perm is finished, he/she will have to brush through the curls, and then go teasing crazy:) but the teasing is something you will have to do EVERYDAY, because once you wash it, it will go back to tight ringlets. Another solution may be to get extensions using afro-curly hair, which can last you up to 3 weeks, if taken care of properly. This way you can rock the style without altering your natural texture, and it is a whole lot easier to wake up and go with the weave because you won't have to spend an hour teasing the heck out of it. Good luck though with whatever you decide!:)

Go get a perm (white perm) and let your hair dry then brush it with a brush. You will have an afro.

If you have long hair, it's not gonna work. Really, no matter what you do to you hair, the texture is not right for an afro. It won't stay up.

You can get a perm, or get it teased. Go to a hairdresser and see if they can do something for you, especially one that specializes in black haircare.

Combine a toaster, electricity, a bathtub, water and then have a seat...you'll have great curls! Let us know how it works out for you.
