Ulysses heard from Eumaeus not a few words about his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus

Ulysses/Odysseus wandered for 10 years and experienced all sorts of (mis)adventures after the end of the Trojan War before finally returning to his native land Ithaca.

This sentence is when he (in disguise) returns home and meets his friend Eumaeus, who is a pigherder.

I'm hoping that you are currently a student of Latin and that you didn't find this sentence "standing alone" in a book somewhere, so I'll go on the first assumption and "group" the words for you (this is called "parsing") and give you a clue: "Ulixes" is the subject of "audivit", but you already knew that, right? If you're doing something from The Odyssey, you're not in Latin I, more like Latin II, so this should be a piece of cake. . .

(Ab Eumaeo) (Ulixes) (non pauca) (de uxore Penelope et filio Telemacho) (audivit).

A piece of advice: Don't look at the entire sentence. Break it down. Find the subject (usually at the beginning). Then the verb (usually at the end). Use the prepositions to help you "group".

(I didn't mean to be so long-winded. It's one thing if you are totally ignorant of Latin and another if you are a current student of the language. I tried to find a happy medium.)
