to be honest, some churches don't think there is a need and/or do not want the hastle.
My church has communion every sunday.
The Bible says that each time we gather in his name, we must "do this," (meaning communion) in rememberance of Jesus Christ.
But, churches have adopted their own rules about communion.

Jesus himself said "whenever you do this, do it in remembrance of me." He did not set a schedule for it and the supper itself was the passover seder. It was only done once a year.
In the early church, it was done more regularly and the congregations got in some trouble with doing it so often. They started a pot luck dinner with a "Me first" kind of attitude. They began to take the communion in an inapropriate way. They did not take communion as a remembrance of Jesus' crucifiction but as a chance to party. Because of that, some got sick and others died.
(1 Corinthians 11:17-31 )
Some churches today schedule communion once a month and some less often. They feel that it can lose it's special quality when done too frequently. Others believe that even though we are told to remember the sacrifice, our focus should be on the resurrection and coming again of Jesus. I am speaking only for the protestant church as the Catholic church has a whole different theology in regards to Communion. Hope this helps.

The Bible doesn't mention how often the early church did it. The inference is that they did it when they assembled on the first day of the week, sunset Saturday to sunset Sunday by our reckoning. We do know that that was the practice in 156 A.D., about 60 years after the death of John the apostle. - Justin Martyr wrote about it in describing the Sunday assembly of Christians.
... There is a misunderstanding in the catholic system. They call it a "sacrament" in clear violation to the scriptures. A sacrament is something that "makes holy" the person.
Here is what Jesus said about becoming holy:
John 17:17 Use the truth to make them holy. Your word is truth. 18 You sent me into the world. In the same way, I have sent them into the world. 19 I make myself holy for them so that they too can be made holy in a true sense.
After the resurrection and the teaching of the Gospel. we see: Acts 26:18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’
...so NOW it is FAITH that sanctifies or "makes holy" the Christian.

there is nothing in the bible specifying how often the communion should be celebrated-our church does it every fourth sunday, and at the conclusion of baptism services-it's a very moving and special time for us-the deacons serve the congregation, then each other and the pastor-and we all eat the bread and drink the cup together-it's not uncommon for people to be weeping -i have been in a few churches where it is celebrated at every service-i won't say the denomination, but at one of them it was like an assembly line-one after the other, get a wafer while a guy in funny clothes mumbles the same thing over and over, seemingly half-asleep...keep the line moving, keep the line moving...but the only thing 'moving' about the whole thing was the line
