It sure does, because you were being nice in the first place. But sometimes, maybe the driver is concentrating on getting into the lane safely; that moent where she or he stops to wave at you could cause an accident. You can take my word on that, I'd let someone in front of me merge just last summer, and while they were waving at me, they were rearended. I stopped to help, ended up calling an ambulance, kept the lady calm while I was there. The driver who rear ended tehm was urious and said that if she hadn't been waving her thank you to me for letting her merge, the accident wouldn't have happened. Safe driving to you :)

As Lisa T so well put it....WHY SHOULD I WAVE BACK? I DON'T KNOW YOU!
THAT IS HOW WE AS SOCIETY MEMBERS HAVE BECOME.....EGOTISTICAL, SELF-CENTERED AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY! So common courtesy is no longer viable in others since they only think of themselves. Acknowledging someones else's "friendly gesture" of allowing you access into traffic, with a wave of the hand, looking straight at the driver and saying "thank you" is what should be expected FROM ALL DRIVERS. But that will not be the case if all we do in a society is sue each others rear ends off for trivial matters. If we have no respect for each other while driving, then all other matters are a mute point when we come face to face personally.

Seeing how I don't know where you are from, it depends.
Country: yeah, people wave whenever they feel like it.
City: you're more liable to get the other person scared for being nice or waving at them.
In personal experience, I found it hard to "give way" to people. If you follow the basic law or common sense then you shouldn't need to make expections to other drivers. ie, I live in a tourist town that the population doubles in the summer and yet people still think they can cross the busy 4 lane highway, without a traffic light. 10 minutes later they might.

I think about this all the time because a lot of times when im in the car with my mom another motorist will let us pass, but she never waves or thanks them. And this really pissed me off for as long as i can remember, because it seemed to me it was just the right thing to do.
Her reason for not waving is because she wants to have full focus and attention on the road, especially with 2 children in the back seat.
So i get her point....but i still think waving is the right thing to do.

Don't sweat it.
You're not stopping or yeilding for the praise are you?
Why get angry? There's enough road rage already.
I say 80 to 90% of the people I yield to wave.
The other 10% probably just don't know any better.
However, with that said, I do have a problem with people stopping and letting other cross when we have the light.
I've seen one guy stop on a busy 45 mph road to let someone cross. That's dangerous and he's just backed up traffic behind him.

You are so right! I was thinking that this morning. I let two separate men out and they both just blanked me, ive taken to shooting people with my fingers! Also, what makes me so mad is when they just zoom up on the outside and then try to cut in, like their time is so much more important than yours!!!! GRRRRRRR, im getting angry now thinking about it.
I saw this really old cartoon once from the 30's or something showing a really mild-mannered gent getting into his car and turning red and growing horns and a tail so maybe road-rage has been around longer than we think :)

Not necessarily. They may have smiled and I didn't catch it, or they may be wary and not do it because they're worried about being mistaken for flipping someone off. That, and other people have different ideas of what an appropriate response is. As long as they're not then driving in front like a complete jerk, I don't let it bother me. There are far more important things in life to worry about than the little stuff you can't control.

You are correct. There have been times when because of driving conditions (I live where there is snow and ice most of the year) did not allow me to wave right away. I usually then, when it is safe, roll down the window and wave that way so the good citizen sees me and knows how much I appreciate it.

You're only wrong to get angry about it. It's like giving. You should never give expecting to get something in return. You give only because it's right. If a thank you is relayed, that's a bonus, not requirement. Sometimes drivers have too much on their minds to acknowledge you. It's not meant as a slight to you, it just happens. Let those that remember make you happy.
For all you drivers out there, be courteous, it might be contagious!
