my kids put a crucifix in the kitchen. now i am not a believer, (quite the opposite) however they go to church with their grandmother and i am ok with that.

but a crucifix in the kitchen? are there any good arguements against that. it just bothers me, it is hard to eat with a dead guy nailed to a board watching me. not in a spiritual sense. i just find it a little grotesque.

The key words here are *your kitchen* They can put up whatever they like in thier own kitchen when they can afford one.
Be nice about suggesting that one of them could enjoy it in thier rooms, a little more forceful if they are disrespectful to you. Remind them that honoring your mother is one of the commandments if need be.You are willing to respect thier beliefs, and they should do likewise... It never bothered me to have one in sight of the dining room growing up, but if it bothers you, you are entitled to enjoy a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere...

Me too. But many Christians - especially Catholics - feel it's appropriate to just put a crucifix up anywhere. I spent my whole childhood looking at one hanging over the top of my Mom's bed. Creepy. People who believe that Jesus died for their sins - like to remember that at all times. I guess that includes their time in the kitchen.

If it's your house - tell them it doesn't work for you - and have them move it!

If it bothers you, why not ask them if they would like one for each of their rooms instead of putting it in the kitchen? That way Jesus could protect them in the dark at night rather than be in the kitchen when no one is often there.

Just be OK with their crucifix there, its just a crucifix. Thank you for allowing them time with their Grandmother.

No argument against it whatsoever, it is suppose to be in a place that can be seen. Maybe you could suggest moving it to the hallway, offer to replace it with the last supper painting or something.

Some people find it grotesque, but some find it a way to honor their savior. To each his own, I guess.

well you could politely ask them to move it,

maybe somewhere where the agony of Christ isn't piercing your wicked soul with guilt. whoops, mild evangelizing outburst.

jk about the second part(the part about guilt), it was just a great opportunity.

If the cross has "Jesus" on it, its in bad taste. HE is risen, HE'S not still on the cross.
