Lou, if you want my respect speak out against the censorship and hate speech coming from people claimng to believe like you

2007-04-18 11:19:55 · update #1

bballsister i have been in this forum for a few weeks. I am Catholic and have had posts deleted for ideological reasons. I know that it was not done by Muslims, agnostics, atheists, or practicioners of eastern religions. If you are a fundamentalist and you want your form of religion respected speak out against censorship and hate speech

Please take note of smiley and his response. this man is a fundamentalist and he is clearly trying to stand up for what is right. I wish the other fundamentalists had this much integrity. I would be happy to learn that more do

Yes, this forum has definitely lowered my opinion of fundamentalists. But hate is probably a bit too strong for my feelings towards the fundies. I think condescending pity with a tinge of amusement better describes how I feel.

On the other hand, I have come to despise the hate mongers on this forum. The attacks on people who are different are hard to stomach.

The Virginia Tech incident seriously makes me wonder if someday we'll see one of us say in an interview: "he seemed really hateful when he went into one of his anti- gay/muslim/atheist rants but I never thought he'd actually kill anyone."

Hi! I'm a fundamentalist.

I've seen some really negative things posted on here about my religion. I've even gotten some serious hate mail. I do believe in the complete and total correctness of the Bible. I really only post answers on Y!A to try to let people know that all fundamentalists are not as they seem to be portrayed on this website.

How many people have learned (or seen people try to teach you) to hate nearly every group in some way? If we could all just sit down and have a dignified discussion of our beliefs without people throwing around insults and stereotypes, how great could our world become?

If you don't agree with someone's beliefs it doesn't mean you can't be friends. One of my best friends wears a burqa and I dress in a way that some people would describe as ultra-modest.

Would I be happy if everyone believed what I believed, it would be a lie to say no. But, it's not my place to preach to anyone.

Am I a fundamentalist? Proudly.
Do I believe that everyone should accept everyone else? Whole-heartedly.

People have a tendency to generalize and that leads to misconceptions. All I really want to do is shine an extremely bright light on what I truely believe.

I used to imagine that all believers of every faith were my enemies. Thanks to R&S, I've had an epiphany and now realize that I have no problem with Wiccans, Pagans, polytheists, or any other faith that doesn't attempt to ram their beliefs down my throat. In a way, I've reverted to my peace-loving Hippie days. On the other hand, my old burning hatred of all organized religion has now been much more narrowly focused on extremeist Christianity. I see clearly now exactly who my enemies are and they are the same fundamentalist Christians who have caused me so much pain in the past. As far as I'm concerned, right wing extremist Christians are a malignant cancer on our civilization and must be opposed at every possible opportunity.

Well it's good that you hate, that makes you a better person.
There are very few fundamental Christians on this forum.
But for many people here if anyone says anything whatsoever about their religious beliefs they are beat over the head for it.
But still the USA is over 85% Christian, don't know what the percentage would be that call them selves fundies or are labeled fundies. Course I could careless what label anyone puts on me. But you should keep the hate going, makes you a better person.

Not exactly hate, but I have totally lost my respect for them.

Perhaps they do not realise it, but if I were someone shopping for a religion why should I go to a church that uses black propaganda to discredit other religions? I would be wary of joining such a religion especially if it calls itself Christian.
Peace and every blessing!

Hatred, like other lower emotions (envy, jealousy, bitterness, etc) cannot be blamed on circumstances or people. If you have hatred, you are the problem, not the people you hate. There will always be temptations to hate.

Haven't we seen enough damage done by people who feel victimized and blame other people for their rage?

It is always easier to justify hatred by blaming other people than it is to own up to your problem.

To paraphrase Paul S, my already very low opinion has been lowered even further. Every day I thank the Lord for leading me out of fundamentalist Christianity and into Catholicism.

I have to admit that my already very low opinion of Christian fundamentalism has been lowered even further, yes.

Lou's answer (above) is a perfect example of why, as is bballsis' below*. I had no idea they lied this much.

Smiley (below) on the other hand does a nice job representing his beliefs respectfully. I sincerely congratulate you - I think that it must be particularly difficult for a fundamentalist to come here in this environment and behave as well as you have.

* She writes "Look at how many "questions" are dissing on atheists or non Christians (which you probably won't find many, if any)".

...and that immediately after saying that _we_ won't look at the facts because we're afraid of what we might see. Wow - she could apparently get hit on the head with an anvil and not notice. Either that or she's simply lying, without any concern at all about how obvious the falsehood of her claim may be.

I have. I did not realize just how intellectually dangerous it really was until coming to this forum, either. For an example, look at what they are being taught about evolution: their "knowledge" of the evolutionary theory is totally flawed, and the education system intended to teach them knowledge is purposely teaching a false evolutionary theory. They seem to think that evolution states that man came from monkies.

Hate? No. But I have learned that many who practice it are pretty frightening. Extremists generally are but you don't often see it as blatantly as it is often posted here.

Imagine the horror of that form of religion let loose on the world.
