My cat, Casper is sick. I don't know why. He has lost a lot of weight, has patches of hair on his head and neck that have fallen out, and is very weak. When I hold him, when he breathes, you can feel rattling. Please help, because my parents don't want to take him to the vet, and I want him to get better. Thank you!

My parents won't take him to the vet, because he is a stray we kind of just got. I'm not sure how old he is.

He showed up about a month ago, and definetely isn't a kitten, but I don't think he's too old.

Thank you guys for responding. I showed this page to my parents, and they took him to the vet this morning. They think it's a food allergy.

If you have changed his food, he might have gotten an allergic reaction. We had the same problem with our cat. They told us that it was an allergy proplem. They gave him a shot of cortizone, a special shampoo, and an antibiotic, because his skin was already getting infected. Try getting different prices at vets, or try calling your local animal shelter see if they will help.

If you can;y get him to a vet he will die i promise that....if you can;t call animal control to get him or her so the cat won;t have to suffer any longer,,,I'm not being mean but he;s suffering and has lots of pain and needs a vet asap...please call animal control so they can do the most humane thing 'what ever that may be,,,,look up animal control in your city 'and they will come to the house and get the cat,,,,,,it;s not your fault .your parents should at least drop him at a vets office and leave him so he get what he needs soon...

Your parents should help you bring the cat to the vet. The cat does not sound good. Take it to the vet or have a friend bring you.

Oh dear. There is no alternative BUT to take him to the vet - he sounds extremely ill, and there's nothing you can do for him at home. Approach your parents with these words to try to make them see sense:

"We took this stray in to help him, but if we're just going to let him suffer we'd be better off handing him over to a shelter."
"He's very ill, we're being really cruel just letting him suffer like this. Please help him."

Good luck. I don't want to speak badly of your parents, but I think it's being very cruel not to help this sick animal

The vet is the only way to go. If he is having trouble breathing it is not good. Insist that your parents take him.

You wil definetly have to bring your cat to the vet because if you don't he might die. How old is he? There is also a chance because he is either getting old or something. SInce it is a boy it might have bladder problems.

I can't believe they won't take him to the vet. That is what he needs. You could call you local animal shelter and see if they could help. It sounds like he needs antibiotics very badly. Sometimes animal shelters will help out if you tell them your situation.

You need to take him to the vet. Make sure he is eating and drinking properly. How old is he?
