We've just had a quote for the gas company to supply mains gas to a property. They say that it doesnt cover easments should they be necessary - but they think they won't be. HOwever, I would still like to know what it means.

I can't decide on a best answer at this point because I don't know which of the 3 different ones so far is actually correct.

They aren't talking about your property but the possibility of crossing someone else's to get to yours. In that case, you'd be the one who'd have to pay the property owner for the easement.

They may be talking about getting an easement from your neighbors to run the line from them to you. An easement allows a utility company to run lines and do maintainance. It becomes part of the deed for the effected property. As an exaple, you may grant someone an easement to build a driveway accross your property. The ageement, easement will become part of the deed to your property whether or not money is involved.

An easment is a piece of your property that has restrictions on what can go there... Like electrical lines, phone lines, water, roads, etc..... Hope this helps
