I used to be so unhappy when I was an Atheist. I felt life had no meaning and that it was useless. I then did research and used my brain. I realized that there has to be a god. There are so many accounts of miracles, Biblical prophecies written 2,000 years ago coming true, and over 500 eyewitnesses of Jesus' ressurection. The main evidence for me was the universe. The earth is located perfectly between the sun and moon. If we moved any farther away, we'd freeze; any closer, and we'd burn. Science can't explain clearly how we got here and many scientists are actually religious and believe there is a god based on their research and logic. I just don't see why so many Atheists have to be ignorant and not even consider that there might be a God. If they started to believe in God, they would be so much happier and be better to other humans.

As an Atheist, I am a very happy person. I didn’t just wake up one day and say “Hey, there is no God!”. I had thought about the possibilities of there actually being a “God”. Not all Atheists are bad people. Although, I feel that a lot (although not all) of Christians are very ignorant and hypocritical people.

I am an Atheist and I am very happy. For your info, the earth isnt exactly between the sun and the moon. Also, the Earth is moving towards the Sun more and more each year. So we are closer to the sun since last year and hey, we arent burnt up. And for this line:
"I just don't see why so many Atheists have to be ignorant and not even consider that there might be a God."
I have considered it. I have read the Bible cover to cover. I have attended church for more than a year. I have prayed. I realize that it doesnt make sense. Almost everything in the Bible contradics itself. Why dont you Christians stop being so ignorant and realize that we are happy without all of your Bible worshiping crap. Geeze. Get a life.

Well that's you. I've become a lot happier since giving up christian dogma.

I don't presume to speak for anyone else, especially those of a different viewpoint. Neither should you.

Science cannot explain why everything is as it is. But on the other hand, saying "god did it" isn't an explanation either. At least science has some useful data from which one can form an opinion, whereas on the other hand all that religion has to contribute is groundless assertion.

Life evolved on this planet according to the local conditions. If the sun was closer, life would have evolved differently. Same goes for is the sun was further away. This isn't rocket science, and I fail to see how you could consider this evidence of anything but evolution.

Typically Atheists who simply lack a belief in God but have no real conviction in anything else either are, in fact, unhappy people. Atheists who know why they are Atheist and have a solid moral foundation based in reality are some of the happiest people I know. I was actually unhappy when I was trying to mold my religious beliefs around the scientific realities I could not deny. It is only by freeing myself from the intellectual dissonance that is religion that I have found peace.

I am not ignorant. In fact, for a while I did believe there was a god. Then, I read the bible, and I couldn't believe what BS it was. It was then I realized that I needed to seriously question my beliefs. I did. Then, I concluded that I was only religious because of my friends. Peer pressure. That's a stupid reason to believe in something, isn't it.

And, I'm happy, because I know the truth. Which is that there is no god.

I am a Catholic and I suffer from manic depression (bipolar). I am typically unhappy. Yet I pray every day, go to church on Sundays, read the Bible, go to 2 Bible studies, etc. It's my own state of mind. Yet how I live my daily life is up to me and God. I think your statement is rather rude. I know several atheists personally and many of them are happy people. Great families, happy careers, family oriented, good neighbors, etc. And none of them are on anti-depressants. Maybe some atheists are lying to themselves but some aren't. What do you say about the Deli Lama? He is very happy and he isn't a Christian. And Scientologists? One can be happy if they have good moral values and they know their true selves, inside and out. And they are satisified with life as it is. I personally think that God helps us more by giving us grace and mercy and forgiveness. But that doesn't necessarily make us happy. Happiness is a state of mind and something we have to work to obtain. As a Catholic, I have to to disagree with your actual question. That's an unfair judgment.

I use to be a Christian in High School. God, I was miserable then. Things didn't add up. So, I became agnostic, and got happier and then things still didn't add up and I became an Atheist and left the idea of god far behind and started doing things for myself and I am happy now. Once I realized I can make my own destiny and did, life turned out fine.

you're satisfied each and each of the time? you're certainly the first human being on the earth to be so. Oh wait, you're literally not satisfied each and each of the time are you ... you said your self you've many issues, so that you've been mendacity. you also make assumptions that others are depressing and unhappy because they have issues. Hmm. So, the following we've someone who says they are satisfied yet have a large number of issues, and is searching down their nostril at others who say they are an same. unhappy.

You've met every Atheist in the world, have you? You know what every single one thinks and feels? That's quite a feat.

If you were unhappy as an Atheist, I'm sorry. It wasn't for you. But many, many Atheists are very happy the way they are, and would be unhappy any other way. I myself was downright miserable as a Christian, and when I realized that I was an Agnostic, I became much more ok with myself.

I'm glad you found what works for you. But it does not work for everyone.

i was raised as a lutheran. i went to private religious schools till my senior year of high school (when they kicked me out for the clothes i wore and the way i looked, not for anything remotely related to academics or behavior) in the last few years of my christian education i started asking questions that no one has ever given a decent answer to.(in my opinion at least)
now, i consider myself agnostic. most of my friends are agnostic or atheists as well. even the ones i grew up as a lutheran with. all of us are happy people. we live our lives loving each other, loving the world, loving life. i think it is very flawed to say atheists are typically unhappy people.
i can say without a doubt that i think im a better person then i was when i was a christian.
