You should be able to play windows 98 games with no problem, we have one working fine on our computer. I don't know about 95 though. Just put the CD in and load the game.

You might not think so and even though XP resembles older versions but the upgrade from '98 to XP was actually quite a big step.

Windows 98 ran in a different configuration, this being 16-bit. Windows 3.1, 95 and 98 were all based on the same technology core coding (kernel) and they all tolerated older progrrams due to this .Xp is built on a whole different coding, which to your misfortune was introduced in Windows NT, evolving into Windows 2K and eventually XP. This technology isnt able to run 16-bit applications. It was left out because as technology goes, it was getting dated. The Windows NT kernel doesn't have any DOS scripture. Forcing it to run solely in 32-bit mode. Xp does have a 16-bit emulator and Command Prompt that makes it look just like the rest of Microsoft OS's

In some cases, there's nothing you can do to get games designed for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me to run on Windows XP.

But with some effort and luck, you can work around problems. The first thing to do is to consult the game documentation. Look for hints about running the game in a pure 32-bit environment. Or you may find out that it's simply incompatible.

Next, look for patches and updates for your game. Bring the game up to its very latest version. Read the Readme file that comes with the update to see if it specifically addresses the problems you're having trying to run the game on Windows XP.

Hope it helps =)

Most games will run fine without doing anything. Some older games (Half-Life Initial Encounter) for example will have problems.

If your having trouble with a game right click on the icon, select properties, then select compatability. Check compatability mode and select Windows 95 or 98.

if the game installs but won't run right click on the icon for the game and click properties then click the compatibility tab you can then make some adjustments to try to get it to run if the game won't install and whinges about not supporting windows NT right click on the setup program on the cd and right click again and do the compatibility set up again it should install then
there are some win 95-98 games that just won't run under xp no matter how hard you try even when you use the compatibility wizard

With certain games you may be able to play them in compatibility mode, But failing that there are programs that can split your HD like Partition Magic, that will allow you to put win 98 on one part and XP on another so you can play all your favorite 98 games. Or if you really want to be really clever( but be warned this requires a large HD, visit www.HyerOs.com This program although a little on the expensive side allows you to put several OS's on one computer. and never ever need to format the HD again. Very good program I use it my self Highly recommended. Enjoy!

most games will work on xp anyway, some have problems or wont even work tho, if they dont then right click on the main icon u use to start the game (usually a shortcut on the desktop) and theres an option called compatability mode, just select what os the game was meant for and give it another shot. works a lot of the time.

No you don't need a program to do it...
Many of them run just fine, and those that don't can be run under "compatibility mode"
Find the .exe file, right click on it and choose properties. There's a tab that says "compatibility" - click on that. Choose Windows 98.

You need to have the programs on disk, which I suppose you have. Try installing them. I have found that almost everything will run on XP.
