5 weeks is perfect age to get a kitten-- will be tiny! get the tortoiseshell! tortoiseshells are more likely to be female, and are alot more friendlier-- less aggressive than male kitties, but male cats are just as good as female kitties-- all cats rule!
i want a kitten! im so jealous of youuuuu!
make sure you play with your new kitty well and keep a eye on her for the 1st 2 weeks, then all should be well-- your parents already have had experience so all should be oki!
good luck on your new kittyyy!

Hehe, someone's excited! ;-)
The other kittens may have been taken already now, as they are so popular at this time of year, but I'll give you my advice anyway!
I think you've made a good choice with the 5 week old. Is there any chance you can take both of them? It's just that because they are so young, they may do better with each other to rely on?
If you can't, I wouldn't worry too much.
As long as you can be with your new kitten and you don't have to go to work or school / Uni etc for the next few weeks, he should be fine.
Sometimes they do have problems, but you could get your vet friend's advice on this.
The benefit of having a young kitten is that you get to see them when they are tiny - a 3 month old has already grown quite a bit!
I personally love all those colours. Black is rare, which is lovely. My kitten is black and white, so of course I love that :-) And Tortie is very unique.
If they are all available when you see them, you will know which one to have through gut instinct.
Good luck and congratulations!
Oh, are you still calling it Kyoko Cloud? ;-)
xx Emmie
EDIT: Hun, don't feel bad. I'm sorry but I think the other kitten you had to wait for will find a home straight away! People are always looking for kittens and he won't be missing out. Hell, if no-one takes him, I'll have him! ;-) Get your new kittens and don't feel guilty about it - this sort of thing happens all the time. Trust me, the woman selling the other kitten has probably got a line of people waiting in case you pull out! Or take one of the new kittens from your vet friend and then wait until May to get the one you originally saw and then you can have 2 :-)

I think tortoiseshells are especially beautiful, but if you can, you should base your choice on personality, not coat colors! Most say kittens should be about 6 weeks old before you take them, but some say 8 so they can spend more time with the mom, it's good for them mentally. Obviously, these kittens have no such luxury.
I've read in several places that it's better for a cat to have a companion, maybe you could take two? They'll always have a playmate, and a sibling at that. I have two little black cats, brothers, and both are a handful, but they love to wrestle together, play together, lick each other. Think about it!

it sounds as if these kittens were bottle baby's, meaning that they were hand raised since birth or under 8 weeks.. bottle baby's are some of the most loyal and loving cats. they will be fine at five weeks with out there mom.. they might require more wet food and time than an older cat. you also will need to make sure you have a vet de-worm and vaccinate the kitten when its of age, also getting it fixed when its 8 weeks or 2lbs will best for your cat. the kitten is still a baby, so have fun and enjoy its playful time. and you should be fine with getting a kitten this young, I have raised bottle baby's and they are the best! good luck!
also i LOVE black cats, but go see the kittens and then choose which one you would like and make sure you see there personalities.

5 week old kittens are going to be harder to take care of. Ask your nurse friend if they're weaned yet, otherwise it's going to be very difficult!
The kittens need a home, so take one by all means - if you can cope with the responsibility and take care of kitty properly for it's whole life. I'm sure your friend will happily advise you, but as a guide, kitty needs to be on kitten food until he's a year old. He'll need regular de-fleaing (BEFORE he gets fleas), and vaccinations at 8 weeks of age. Also neutering at 5 months of age. Looking at it this way, a 5 week old might be easier than a 12 week old - easier to litter train if he's not already, and a 12 week old will be overdue for vaccinations.
By the way black cat's are by far and away my favourite (my cat was black of course, and she was amazing)Torties are usually naughty, black and whites are cute, but blacks are in a class of their own!
I hope all the kitties find a good home!

I love long hair kittens and then I'd go for color, which I like black. You'll probably need to nurse your little one being so young, so it may be a little more time consuming in the beginning, but you may really bond with the kitten too. Try to train the kitten early, for example, holding it like a baby and rubbing the belly and the kitten may come to love it. You are very lucky to have a new kitten to love!

The 12 week old kitten will be better socialised and trained by its mother, I would have thought that the vets would have wanted to keep the kittens past the 5 week stage as this is thought to be too young to be homed.
As for colour personal choice and what you like - personally I like black cats - they are lucky! But seriously it is the cat that is the pet not what colour they are
Go and see them, see what they are like fall in love and get that one (provided it is healthy!)

I got a 5 week old kitten once because she had no mum, but I'd owned several cats before. Phoebe was very poorly with cat flu and we didn't think she would make it several times. We had very expensive vet bills but it was worth it. If you are a first timer, I'd get the older kitten, they shouldn't leave their mummies until they are at least 9 weeks old ideally (obviously not in this situation). Good Luck

i like black and white...
the color of my precious kitty!!!!!
was your kitty with her sibs when you got her? that may hav seperated them too early, but then again the vet should be an expert at this and wouldn't have given you the kitten if it was too early!!! dont worry about it, just give your new kitten lots of love and attention and take extremely good care of her!!!
still, if you want, you may want to consider adopting another kitten as her friend. if you do, make sure the new kitten is about the same age as yours and they will be happy as a can be!!! kittens love to have a buddy to play with!!!!!!!
oh and really dont worry about having a young kitten as a first time cat owner....just as long as the kitten and you get along and your ok!!!

Have the tortoiseshell they are fab. A five week old kitten will need a little more care than the older one but you will bond really well.
Will the kitten be weaned? if not you will need to get a bottle and some formula milk.
Enjoy your new kitten you will have loads of fun together.
