I have this weird thing where pain(or even something like scratching) has to be symmetrical. It's like if I were to stub a toe on my left foot I would have to make the same toe on my right feel the same. I am unable to do anything else until I can get it to feel the same. It doesn't even really register that the one side hurts I only realize that the other side doesn't. I've told my parents and my dr. My dr. doesn't seem to think that it's ocd but it is obviosly an obsession. Does anybody have any ideas of what it could be or what I could do to stop it? Please help. I am seriously scared that someday I will really hurt myself and not be able to stop myself from hurting the other side.

I am totally like that, too, and when I try and explain it to someone, they look at me like I'm crazy (maybe I am???). But if I walk past a table and bump my hand, I NEED the sensation on the other hand or I feel like i'm going to lose it, I get frantic until I do.

I don't really know what it is, but I've never had a situation where I did hurt myself badly (fortunately, I suppose). I think it has lessened in severity just by not concentrating on it when it happens. I know when I bump my hand or whatever that that sensation is coming so I try and occupy myself in some other way, any way at all.

I hope someone here has better advice b/c I'd love to know, too.

You may want to have your MD give you a referral to a psychiatrist. It sounds like you have OCD without obsessive behaviors. The lack of obsessive behaviors may be what is throwing your MD off. It is possible to have OCD only having serious compulsions. Ask your MD.

I think you need another doctor's opinion because this certainly appears to be OCD. You are still having to even things up whether it involves pain or not.
