need to know what the gmc distributer magnetic pickup coil resistance.454 engine year 1988

I own a shop, and can tell you this; connect the ohmmeter leads to both terminals of the pick-up coil wires. Flex the wires by hand to check for intermittent opens. The ohmmeter should read one steady value between 500 and 1500 ohms as the leads are flexed by hand. If it doesn't, the pick-up coil is defective, and must be replaced.
If the air gap is closed and/or not gaped as it should be, you won't have a spark. I quoted the test procedure out of a Haynes Repair Manual on how to test the pick-up coil.

600-1200 ohms is spec,in real life they are usually about 800-1000 ohms.

Around a thousand ohms. If you suspect it is no good, replace it as they are cheap.
