I don't believe that we've ever really NEEDED religion. We've used it, but never needed it.

Everyone needs to believe in something... it's something innate in human beings. Weither that be God in heaven or some earth spirit or even the athiest believes in himself... in the power of his own intellect and the intellect of humanity. So i would say one needs Belief. Religion is more structured... a set of beliefs and rituals built around said beliefs designed for the purposes of worship. Many have found Religion to have a negative connotation. In that religious people seem to be more concentrated on rituals than anything else. That is why some christians, for example, take offense to being called religious. They believe that rituals are basically useless and man trying to reach God where spiritual christianity has God coming down to man (jesus christ).
Sooo... imho what every person has is faith or belief in something natural or supernatural... and may not actually have a religion if one defines religion as a collection of beliefs and according rituals shared by a group of people.
Good question btw :D
God bless you richly!

What is need is not religion. Religion does not save a person or get them to heaven. What is needed is a right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:16;"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

I think on a personal and on a community level, religion can do fantastic things. Anything higher than that and it starts to be less about helping people (being the crutch, as mentioned earlier) and more about taking their money and exerting power over them. So, basically, organised religion's a no-no.

It is not religion that we need it a lifestyle change that only can come from one yelid himself to the power of God. Religion has never saved anyone, it only through Jesus that we can be saved.

I think that if religion ceased to fulfill a societal and cultural purpose, it would vanish. Since we still have religion, I think it is safe to say, that despite not being needed by each of us, it is needed by members of our communities.

I need Jesus who loves me
His only commandment before he went back into the Father was for us to love one another.
Upon being saved he will place his laws in our minds and in our hearts and we will become as brand new children in the body of Christ.
I don't think he said anything about religion.
