That is a cat's way of contributing to its chosen family's food supply. Your kitty is declaring that he or she is useful, that he/she can be depended on to bring home dinner occasionally. With its human companions away from the house all day, combined with the fact that there always seems to be plenty of food around, a cat may assume that we humans are out "hunting" all the time. Some cats will take there being a surplus of food as a chance to be lazy and not "do their part" in providing for the family. Others, however, still want to be helpful. Hence them bringing home mice and birds. Take it as a compliment. Your cat cares about you and your family -- it is important to him or her that all your tummies stay fed. :)

Along with the dead mice and birds, your cat may just be bringing home fleas and other parasites, rabies, toxoplasmosis, cat-scratch fever, etc. Most of which are transferrable to people! For your cat's health, as well as your family's, keep your cat indoors. Your neighboorhood wildlife will thank you for too!

My cat did that a few times, and I think it is like a prize or gift to them and they want to keep it so they have their next meal. It is a primal response of the world of cats in the wild. Don't be that concerned. Just remove it from the cat when they do that and dispose of it.

Your cat is telling you that they feel safe at your house. The bringing of dead animals is the cats way of contributing food to the house. Sounds silly but true.

I know all about animals!! Here you go!!
1)It's in their nature. A long time ago, cats were used as hunters not dogs. And their ancestors were probably alive at that time so they "inherited" it.
2)It wants to play
3)It's tired of regular catfood
4)And finally, the cat is distressed! When my cat is un-happy he hunts! Why I don't know...

On occasion, a cat will bring home a dead or half-dead animal as a token of her love and respect (a touching, if gruesome, method of confirming the bond).

Bringing home "love offerings" of this type is a sign of attachment and belonging. So don't be apalled, just grin and bare it!

A cat is a natural hunter. It is totally natural. During the evening its probably dinner for the cat so the hunt, kill , and bring is inside to enjoy!

A cat looks on you as his/her "mommy' (regardless of which gender you are--no insult intended). Like any child, the cat wants to show "mommy" what it can do (see? I'm such a good hunter!) and bring "mommy" special things (this is for you, mommy--i caught it all by myself!). As one responder observed, some cats seem to be trying to teach their "helpless" persons how to hunt so the poor persons can feed themselves someday....

That is there way of saying thank you and letting you know they love you. Once I took in a stray cat and every day she would bring me a mouse from the field. And she would put it in my flower vase because this is where she saw me woking alot with my flowers.
