In order for something to be considered "alive" in the Biblical sense, it had to have the following:
1) Blood - since life is in the blood (Leviticus)
2) Breath of life - it had to breathe.

if fish weren't considered alive, what were they considered? what about bugs, do they breathe, are they alive then, when fish are not?

in my pagan path, i consider fish to be a part of nature and every bit alive, just like bugs, and trees etc.

Fish are fully alive and important to God or else He would not have created them, Jesus used fish many times to illustrate a point,so I`m guessing that they are alive and valuable.

your question would be a lot easier to answer were it to contain detail on what " a christian" said about fish. But just between you and me you do come of as a little bit incoherent. what are christians supposed to have against fish?

Fish breath via gills and bleed (ever gut one are catching it, it bleeds red just like you and me).

Bugs breath and bleed too.
