Its best to have one as it keeps the valve clean but it is not mandatory.

You don't NEED a valve cap, but it keeps crud out of the valve. If you have crud in there, it could get lodged in the valve the next time you inflate the tube and cause a leak.
Every time you change a tube, save the valve cap somewhere. Soon enough you'll have a bin of them and never have this problem again.

If you have a valve cap it'll just help you keep your valve slen so I think you should have a valve cap for it cause if it rains and you ride your bike the water might be able to get into it.

I always use valve caps. I just feel better knowing that they are there to keep the valve clean, which means fewer tire problems for me, at least.

there are categories yet now and lower back they are the comparable as on a motor vehicle. there are long valvecores, short ones or previous shaped ones with a small rubber tubing on them. if air leaks out once you get rid of the valve cap then the valvecore is leaking. they could get replaced or purely tighened up a tad. in case you have the comparable valve cap as a motor vehicle tyre then attempt get a metallic valve cap those are completely leak evidence and likewise have a rubber cushion sitting interior. you some cases see fancy ones in vehicle shops for e.a. yet purely as a protection ingredient get a metallic one.

if you have presta valves, its best to have the cap. if you have schreader valves, then the cap is inconsequential. if you really want one, go to a bike shop, buy a tube ($5) and ask them for a valve cap (free!). this way you have an extra tube and a cap. they usually wont give it free if you just walk in and ask. if you buy something from them, you get free stuff.

You need one. A valve cap keeps the valve clean.
Your local bike shop will probably give you one, if not, valve caps can't be expensive.

if you are talking a road bike with presta valves, then you don't need any valve caps
if you have schrader valves on a MTB, it will keep the gunk and mud out so you can pump it quicker and easier

you do not need the cap unless there is a leak in your valve. the only seeming thing it does is give you somthing to look for. it will be fine without it.
