I'm going on a field trip with my son's kindergarten class. The place we are going will only have picnic tables. I was wondering if there are any good lunches I could pack for my son and I (besides sandwhiches) that doesn't need to be heated up.

From past experiences with field trips, I'd say go for something simple. You don't want any spills, messes, or anything getting overheated or cold. You could always pack some vegetables such as carrots and celery in a small plastic back and bring a disposable container of dip. It makes for a healthy and quick snack. With field trips most kids are too excited to eat anyways. Any kind of baked chips or potato chips work in a plastic bag, easy to throw as well. Besides sandwiches, there isn't much you could do for the main meal. You could always stir up a simple salad and bring the dressing along with it. That way you won't have any spills or leaks. As for drinks, water bottles or cans of sodas work!

Well, you could but those lunch meals from the market that have lunch meat, cheese and crackers or you can make fried chicken.
Then of course add some fruit, juice and maybe a treat like a cup cake.

Lunchables and travel-sized fruit cups
Summer sausage, cheese, Triscuits, baby carrots and ranch dressing
Cold chicken and pickles and potato salad
Cold ham or roast beef and cheese slices you can roll up and dip in mustard, with chips & salsa

Have a small treat for dessert, like a pudding cup or mini candy bar. Have fun!

how about:
1. potato salad or any pasta salads
2. fried chicken or chicken fingers/nuggets (they're still good cold)
3. brownies, cookies, muffins, cupcakes
4. bananas, oranges, grapes any fruit you don't have to cut
5. trail mix, nuts, raisins...oh chocolate covered raisins
6. vegetable sticks
7. hard boiled eggs (don't make that face! they are very good for kids)
8. salads
9. edamame
10. sushi! (you can make your own or you can get the ready made ones in the supermarket)
11. instead of sandwiches...do wraps or burritos!
well i'm all out of ideas.... good luck!

Lunch-ables are great.
Or maybe try a different approach w/ sandwiches.
Grab one piece of bread, ham(or turkey or bologna) & cheese. Then roll them together like rolling up a sleeping bag or mat. You know what I mean? Then serve w/ some carrots & celery w/ ranch & apples w/ caramel. Pack a juice & some cookies then your all set :]

Carrot and celery sticks (peanut butter in the celery won't spoil, esp. if you keep it in an insulated lunch bag/box. Chips (or crakers as a healthier alternative. Any type of fruit (apples and oranges come to mind as being the easiest).
