The credit repair websites out there do what you can do yourself which is challenge what negatives are on your report. 7 out of 10 times the creditors will not respond in time (especially if it's older) and the account will be deleted from your report.

One other thing they help you with is getting you a small credit card to start rebuilding your history. They work out deals with banks ect.

They can tend to be expensive. Averaging between $500-$1000. It basically comes down to if it's worth it to you to pay someone else to do the work for you.

If you are looking for a credit repair organization, who you have to pay to do the work for you, I don't know of any legit ones and many are frauds. Because of that, I never recommend any CRO's. If that is what you are looking for, thoroughly research the CRO before putting any money down.

If you are looking for a "free" do it yourself credit repair site, where you do the work, you might click on my profile and go to the last link I have listed for creditboards.com

I always recommend doing it yourself. Draft a letter to each of the three agencies and dispute the negative information. However, be prepared for them to verify the debt. If it's yours, it's likely to stick. However, if you have proof that it's not - send copies of that with your dispute letter. You're likely to get the same results that any of these companies would get and it'll cost you A LOT less.

You can do this your self. It will take some time, but if you are adventurous, you can get it done.
