Slashdot, a well-known geek news site, has almost since its inception had a contacts system like Yahoo added (you know, the contacts/fans thing) not too long ago.

Except they have subdivisions; you can have Fans, Foes, Friends and Freaks (I'm sure you can work out what each means)

Would this work for you, or would this delineate the R&S lines in an even sharper fashion?

I think it would be best if it meant something. Like someone you put on the Foes list couldn't write you emails (even if you allow emails--just not from foes) or report you for abuse.

You could get emails from people on your "friends" list in like an IM forum--or you could actually see the real email address from friends.

Fans and freaks would have to be contacted through yahoo, but they could email you like the way it is set up now.

I just want them to do something about the abuse system. It kills me that you can stalk someone. Perhaps it should be earned--If you aren't at least a certain level, you can't report abuse. And you are limited to only 5 abuse reports a day or something. I still have no idea why some people have names like Racist Black Woman and Cussing_Redneck and that is apparently ok, they apparently don't give violations to the people like the Yoga boy who spams this site.

I'd rather have R&S divided into maybe general discussion on spirituality and questions on other's religions--since there are so many people on here the questions just fly. You can't find a question asked last night on the first 10 pgs.

**Edit**
What I'd really like is for my answers to be divided into Open Questions, In Voting, or Resolved so that even if its an older question, I can see it until it resolves. And best answers divided by category so if you are trying to find a best answer, and you know the question was in another category....

Yahoo would never allow it. They pander to the extremely sensitive and insecure. But I think it would be cool if they allowed it. I'd want to be on someone's "Foe" or "Freak" list just because I've never been called a freak before, and to have someone openly label me a foe would be refreshing. It would be funny.

A well planned foe function could protect extremist who are easily offended. They could feel all high and might by declaring a foe and ignoring all their future questions.

That would destroy some of the fun, but might help reduce the violation reporting.

That is an interesting idea. I would be the first one to label Markyy a freak but can the freaks be my friends too? That does seem to be how my real life works.

That would be so cool. I have a feeling I would want to be someones fan or friend and they would see me as a foe or freak though!

It gets heavy enough here without more subdivisions I think,it would suit some but not me,I like a little humor but mostly serious and intelligent posts.

Yahoo probably couldn't do it if they wanted to - at least they probably couldn't use the same titles, I'd bet that Slashdot website has them copyrighted.

Oh man, that would lead to even more abuse of the reporting function. if some fundie shows up on your list of FREAKS, they will report you for anything you say....and you know how goood Yahoo is about actually paying attention to who is reporting what, right??

Could I also see which hundreds and hundreds of people had added me as a Freak?

I like that!

I like that idea. There's people on here I don't want on my fan list...I'd rather remove them and put them on a "foe's list".
