Mike, who's 11 thinks it's completley insain that he's in the sixth grade and I am pregnant. What should I say to make him less angry about this????

You should leave him alone for a few days, give him space. Rule #1, don't push him towards the subject. In a few days, kindly and gradually ask him why he finds that ridiculous. Tell him it's an okay thing. Do some research and print it out, that way it makes even more sense to him. He may also be a little jealous because he'll lose attention to a newborn. Explain all the high points of having a new baby on the house. Use details. Make him feel good to be a big brother, and let him know he's a big part of the babies life!

I have not yet seen this pointed out in the thread yet, it may be possible that he is not upset that you are having a baby, but more along the lines of he is old enough to know how babies are produced and may be angry about this.

In this case you would be more apt to tell him how much you and your husband are in love and its that having a baby will not change the love that you have for him or anyone else in the family.

Hope this helps.

Tell him that this is the first time he is going to get to be a big brother to A BOY! Think of all the stuff he can teach him. Since he's so much older, he will be very powerful and influential. Get him pumped up by telling him how important is role is going to be in raising the new babe. Good luck.

He's probably a bit embarassed that his mom is pregnant. In this day and age it's uncommon for someone in the six grade to have a new sibling on the way since most families limit their chidren to two.

Maybe you should find the video Rasing 16 children... And watching it with your son to show him that some people do have more children and that it's ok.

I'm the oldest of four,,, and I can relate..
Just MAKE sure you help him understand that he is not going to be pushed further from mom,.. let him know you love him just as much as the next baby and that you are there for him always.. esp. as he's reaching his tween years,, if anything arrange a little "you and him" alone time .. he probably feels like he'll be neglected more.
My parents made special times with me..
a movie,, or an ice cream,, just to let me know i'd always be their "baby" :)

good luck!!
and congrats on the baby

Its a normal reaction from some kids his age. Dont say anything. Give him an extra privelege as the oldest and wait it out. Dont argue with him about it.

He's going to have to learn to deal with it because it's happening! I would tell him that it is very common in this day and age for siblings to be years apart (even 10 or 12 years apart). There's nothing wrong with it and he's going to have a little sister or brother who thinks he walks on water. :)

Congratulations and good luck! :)

Well, technically he has to get over the anger himself- you're having a baby and that's that :) But, just ressure him there's plenty of time and attention/affection for everyone.
