jajajajajjajaja its amazing what people will believe is it not??? it was once brought to my attention from a girl at my school that she had heard we sacrifice babies in the temple and eat them for dinner!! it makes me laugh and consider the irony of the fact that people can believe that kind of ridiculous stuff and not believe in god .....

Here are some of the ones I have heard : That we believed that we had God's Head in the Salt Lake Temple and that we use our genealogy resources to compile hit lists for those who "oppose our fanatical regime".
We all stand around the altar naked. But the funniest thing, was that since we all HAVE to have a talent and most of us clog.
The spires on the Temple were really phallic symbols and you had to consumate your marriage in front of the guests.
The alter which they hold hands across is suppose to signify the marriage bed and is used as such. Each couple then hopes to have concieved their first child from that union.
That we believe that Jesus resurrected body had helium in His veins in order to keep Him floating in the clouds of Heaven.
That Mormons abstain from all caffeinated products, except Coca-Cola, because Coke gave money to the LDS Church.
That Mormons aren't allowed to dance, sing, listen to the radio, watch TV, use electricity and so on, but they are allowed to have lots and lots of premarital SEX!!!! So you can figure out what Salt Lake City teens are believed to be doing on the weekends...
And another part of this rumor is that Mormons can't use birth control, so they have the highest illegitimate pregnancy rate of any group in the world.
That the men of the church would force young ladies into the Salt Lake Temple to marry them, but some of the girls were actually excaping by jumping out of the windows into the Great Salt Lake.
That we sacrifice cats.
That they cut 2 holes in the lower front of the bride's dress so the groom can fondle her as part of the wedding ceremony in the temple!
If you want more, I left a link. Enjoy!

Former Mormon (I'm on a long religious walkabout, you could say). Think Mormons are great people, who love their community and try to help others. Some of the best people I know are Mormons.
Horns - didn't know anyone with horns - and I figured I would have seen them in Temple Square...

I had a friend who went on a mission to Germany in the 80s. Right before he left he was in a terrible motorcycle accident. To relieve pressure on his brain they had to drill two holes in the top of his head. When they healed, they left two indentations in the front of his skull. On his mission he was asked if Mormons had horns (He was in Bavaria if that makes any difference). He said yes, but he had his removed, and he let them feel where they used to be. I hope this did not support the theory.
I have also heard that during WWII the Mormons had a secret submarine port in the Great Salt Lake. A real usefully place for a sub.

I am not a Mormon (I'm a JW) but I do understand your frustration at the misinformation people accept as fact.
I think it's ridiculous that people make snap judgements and opinions based on rumour, not actual research or questioning. And they refer to the wrong source of information. A former member of any religion is usually apt to shed bad light on it, and more often than not has an axe to grind.
I say go straight to the horses' mouth for information- it's the most reliable way of getting answers to your questions.

I'm also LDS, and other than the usual stuff you see on Anti-Mormon websites...I've heard some pretty bizarre things. Stuff like we have horns, that our temples are spaceships, and that we drink cat blood.
It's pretty funny to see what people make up about something they aren't sure of.

The Book of Mormon declares that it contains, “as does the Bible, the fullness of the everlasting gospel.” This statement brings up several questions.
If the Bible truly does contain the "fulness of the everlasting gospel", then why is the Book of Mormon even necessary? If the Mormon Church claims to be the restoration of the gospel, then what, exactly, needed to be restored?
Also...if the Bible and the Book of Mormon both truly contain the fulness of the gospel, then those gospels should agree, shouldn’t they?

I am not Mormon but I have never heard of horns. That is ridiculous. It is just someone who was afraid of your religion.

While growing up in junior high school I used to hear rumors about mormon girls and women having to wear these very scratchy burlap-like undergarments, and they couldn't even take them off to shower.
It took me several years to realize I hadn't actually seen any of these burlap long underwear type things in gym classes, lol...
