Is the weight jump risky for PBF?

Jose L - Mayweather will come in to the fight at 151 tops. He's actually in good shape if he's currently at 150 .

Floyd has a small frame, so i doubt if he'll come in at 154, maybe 150, 151 tops. He'll want to keep his speed and quickness at the maximum level. But don't be surprised if Oscar comes in just a little lighter than expected. He's going to try to be at his fastest but still have the power. Oscar may come in a pound or a pound and a half under the limit. Most likely 153. But a fighter jumping up in weight as Floyd is doing for this fight is always risky because you just don't know how the extra weight will affect them. Some fighters take a couple of lesser fights when they first move up in weight because they want to get their bodies used to the extra weight and see if they can take a bigger man's punch and also see if they still have their own power. I think that's what Diego Corrales should've done before he fought Joshua Clottey, Clottey just looked more natural and stronger at 147 than Diego did. So this jump in weight could affect Floyd's speed and timing. We'll see in a few weeks.

Of course 154 is too much for PBF, just last week he was at 150lbs! Ok, so if you dont know much about boxing you're like "ok so he is going to make his weight easily as long as he stays under 154." If you are a PBF fan the weight issue is a big reason for concern. This means that the guy gots to EAT MORE to make his weight! No doubt I see a very lethargic Mayweather on may 5th. On the other hand when a fighter has to make weight the traditional way, theyd be weighing about 165-160 right now, making weight at 154, this guy gots to put ON weight! I can see Mayweather starting to take a systematic beating and losing by TKO in the mid to late rounds. The reason, the Event itself will drain him of energy, the heavier gloves and the heavier weight will start catching up to him. If I was advisor to Mayweather I would have had him fight 1 fight at 154 before negotiating with DLH. Possible excuses for PBF are as follows: I hurt my hand in the 4th rd, I think I dislocated my elbow and in such a big event I felt it was in my best interest to go back to the drawing board and come back to beat him with my shoulder being good, I had a hard time making weight I just didnt want to tell anybody because Im a true warrior (which he is NOT). Oh and then the BIG apology to Oscar just like Mayorga did, "im sorry, oscar knows all the talk was just a show, I got all the respect in the world for him etc etc etc"

Brent, I hate to admit this, but Jose L may be right. Ever since Diego Corrales lost to Clottey coming up in weight, the weight factor has been weighing (pun intended) on the blogbaba's mind. Floyd is from my area, and although I don't particularly like the pre fight hype, I like Floyd. I am worried it will play out Just like Jose L described. Realistically, the possibility of the weight being a factor makes perfect sense and is potentially a real problem for Floyd. Power is another issue, will the weight jump adversely effect Mayweather's power? Will Oscar be able to take Floyd's shots as well as Clottey took Corrales's? Will Floyd's speed make the weight jump with him, or will he leave it at the lower weight like Diego did? May 5th will answer all these questions and more.

I think the weight jump is very risky for Mayweather. The blogbaba gives a thumbs up to Jose L for expressing my fears about DeLa Hoya/Mayweather pertaining to Floyd.

Maybe, Mayweather's only human.
He is, isn't he?

*additional*

For the geniuses that think the weight will adversely affect Mayweather against De La Hoya, let's not forget that Oscar started at 130, too, just like Floyd.
Let's also not forget that De la Hoya has to make weight as well, and gaining weight did not serve him well in the past, against Felix Sturm (a gift decision) and Hopkins, although those fights were fought at 160.

He is definitely overweight. But then so is De La Hoya. This fight should take place at 147 lbs. max. I'm more concerned with De La Hoya he has the history of showing up flabby, like two fights ago against Alex Sturm.

I want to see him lose. If Roy Jones couldn't do it then PBF needs to take a hint. I don't know if it's too much but when he finally does lose it's going to be very bad.
