I belive the security of the nation should be of paramount importance to the government and anyone applying for assylum or an immigation visa should apply to the embassy in their country of origin.
No foreign national should be allowed in without a current visa and they should be warned that if they overstay their visa they WILL be arrested and deported to their country of origin, without the right of appeal. They will in fact be placed on the next available flight.
This country has enough internal problems without adding illegal immigration to the pot.
I did not agree with many of the white South African government but I did, and still do, agree with their insistance that all immigrants speak the national language before emigrating, thus ensuring they could understand and be understood in most situations. Surely this is just common curtesy.
If you do not like the way it is here clear off back where you came from, dont try to change the way our country is run.

I'd rather think of them as being nationalistic. I don't care what colour a person is as long as he/she was born in Britain or has a British passport.
Is it wrong to expect people to put into the pot before taking out of it.

I did not mean the clear off back where you came from to be offensive and appoogise if it hs cause offense. What I meant by that statement was Why should we have to change our laws and cusoms just because certain groups do not like them.

I can't object topeople calling me a racist as I did ask the question, but if you did read the question properly you will have read that I believe if a person overstays their visa they are here ILLEGALLY therefore they have broken our laws why should they expect protection from the same laws they are willing to break. That applies to black, white, asian or even aliens who are blue with yellow spots.

May be be seen as Racist by some, and not by others. It really depends on people views. One thing i believe in is that you may not agree with someones views but you can still respect them.

I don't think any of your comments are racist. I am a mixed race British person, with friends of all races, and many of them feel exactly the same way as you.
There is a popular misconception that only white English people want to protect this country and feel negatively about floods of unchecked people entering the UK.
Using the white south African government as an example however, was not the best choice. Their insistence that everyone should speak English or Afrikaans is a bit rich considering neither are the native language of the majority population. That would be a bit like immigrants into this country having to speak Urdu.
However, I still agree with you that if you want to live in this country you should have to speak English and follow the rules of the land. Otherwise you'd be better off staying where you are.

Yeah.... Just like all those British people speak fluent French or Spanish when they retire/move to Spain or France.... (come on, there might be a handful... but most just stick to the english colonies that have been created so they don't need to speak spanish) not to speak about all those British expats you meet all over the world keeping up their own culture and sticking together....
I'm not saying your views are racist, you're not discriminating. However, I find your views very narrow minded. Immigration, movement of people, that is what created this world, made it such a beautiful place. We wouldn't exist if it weren't for free migration of people, that's a fact. Countries that close themselves off through selective immigration or none are depriving their economies and cultures from essential input that will ensure a diverse and strong country in the long term. It is only the weakhearted that are scared of change and will hide away behind weak argumentation and repetition, not opening themselves for all the possibilities and positivity that migration brings along.

No I don't think your views are racist! If you look at almost any country apart from the UK you'll find they have strong immigration rules and outstaying a visa is grounds for deportation or jail. The vast majority of asylum seekers (tempted to say all) have arrived here via "safe" coun tries and do so only because they believe (rightly) that we will not throw them right back where they came from. This puts a huge strain on ports/airports/security/ and the welfare state- none of which they have contributed to. Most other countries also have requirements to speak the language as a prerequisite to naturalisation.
Before you flame me (as well as the question asker) I am married to a foreigner, who entered this country legally 20 years ago obtained a job (translating) took NOTHING from the state waited 3 years then obtained a British Passport now runs a multi million pound business employing more than a dozen people hence helping the British economy

You are not racist. Just a myopic person. Do you know how many British nationals live abroad. Do you realise why they have to live in other countries across the globe. Economic. Their work contribute towards the building of the great British empire. Have you considered what the UK economy would be without the Commonwealth of nations or the friendship of the United States.
As a people we need to move away from the individualist approach. Nations need other nations to survive. Also remember that in this age, people all over the world go on the net and see comments like yours. This is what fuels the hate.
immigrants come to the UK for education, work and a different life style. Is that such a bad thing. The crime rate is not proportional to number of immigrants. The hideous crimes: murder of kids, sexual assult and serial killing are they committed by immigrants?
Its very sad when we are so individualistic in our thoughts yet governments and multinational companies talk about globalisation in foreign lands. We are one when it suits some purpose.
As a people we need to look at the bigger pic.

In this country any comment made by a white person that could possibly be bent and twisted and misinterpreted until it causes some minor offense to anyone is racist. This insult may not be apparent to the members of the race you are accused of offending, but there will be some bleeding heart British person out there only too willing to accuse you. You cant be deemed racist if you are non white.
I got sent an email called the grasshopper and the ant, British version. It says a lot about British society.
>>>>The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed by his hard efforts.
So far, so good, eh? BUT THEN:
The shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like him, are cold and starving.
The BBC shows up to provide live coverage of the shivering grasshopper, with cuts to a video of the ant in his comfortable warm home in Hampstead with a table laden with food.
The British are stunned that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer while others have plenty.
The Liberal Party, the Respect Party, the Tree Hugger’s Party, and the Coalition Against Poverty demonstrate in front of the ant's house.
Ken Livingstone laments in an interview with Panorama that the ant has got rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share".
In response, the Labour Government drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti-Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant's taxes are reassessed, and he is also fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as helpers. Without enough money to pay the fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Council and given to the grasshopper as compensation.
The BBC later shows the now fat grasshopper finishing up the last of the ant's food, though Spring is still months away, while the house he is in crumbles around him because he hasn't bothered to maintain it.
Inadequate government funding is blamed, Diane Abbot is appointed to head a commission of enquiry that will cost £10,000,000.
The grasshopper is soon dead of a drug overdose; the Guardian blames it on the obvious failure of government to address the root causes of despair arising from social inequality. The abandoned house is taken over by a gang of immigrant spiders, praised by the government for enriching Britain's multi cultural diversity, who promptly set up a crack cocaine distribution operation and terrorize the local community.
THE END
Look up many other versions on the net!

In a sense your views are extreme. I agree with you that immigration has become a problem, however my parents emigrated from their country in the 70s to seek a better alternative of life for their future famillies which i don't believe is a crime. Everyone wants something best for their famillies and will do anything to achieve it even if this means leaving their home country. Maybe there should be a criteria for immigrants wanting to move over here like you said by speaking the country's language first. However they have as much right to move over as anyone else does. I mean look at all the people moving over the places like spain, australia, america and egypt...their goverments don't complain. And personallu i dont feel they are trying to change the way the government is run, they just want to be accepted and given that opportunity...its common courtesy for us to give them that
Although i do feel that immigrants are being given the easy option. When my parents emigrated they had to work hard to gain their stay and adapt and i feel that isn't such the case anymore...maybe something needs to be done about that.

I'm English, not British and I don't know where this PC brigade get off trying to make me out to be a racist because I want to be English. I was born and bred in this country. I love this country and unlike some I have no affiliations with any other country.Yes, if you come to this country you should learn to speak the language and adhere to our laws and regulations and recognise that the Queen is the head of our nation. If you don't want to do this don't come here.We extend the courtesy of letting you in this country so give back the same and show a little respect for your hosts. It seems like every nation can come here and say what they like and knock this country and the people as much as they want, but we as English are not allowed to open our mouths or have an opinion without it being perceived as racist.Personally I think that our borders should be shut to everyone now and those that are here illegally or not working in PROPER employment should be rounded up and sent back to wherever they hail from. Those who are caught plotting against our security and engage in terrorist acts should be made to do their time in prisons somewhere else, not the cushy ones in this country.

I have the same ideas going though my own mind. When we are asked to help the police if we hear anything building up to a terrorist act. How can we? I hear so many different languages being used. This is a country that has welcomed others for centuries not just the last few years. If you live here and like it, than become British. Speak our language, learn our culture, this is not where you came from. We are not fighting each other. Sometimes we don't agree with the Government, but we use the ballot box.

anything and every thing white people say that means anybody ells don't get their way is considered racist. Its all just a big political game, Ever seen the way others are not only allowed, but encouraged to bash white people, even on yahoo answers? If you say anything other than give "immigrants" every thing they want including special rights in your country over your and your kids rights will be considered racist. WATCH how fast this world falls back into the dark ages.
There's a reason they all want to leave there country's and move to rich white country's
a reason they all want to leave their country's and move to white country's.

I study International Politics. I wouldn't say your views are 'racist'. However people who discuss at infinitum - immigration, have to realise that this is the cloaked terminology of a racist. There are loads of people who seem to agree with you and are not racist. But it is a primordial base arguement to have a go at immigration. On the whole it is such a minor issue in the UK today. Security problems from it are minimal, cost to the nation is counter balanced by the contribution to the economy made by other immigrants.
2 questions - how do you propose to 'send someone back to their country when many either dony say where they are from or lie (eg I am Kosovan when they are Albanian)?
Any issue of illegal immigrants scrounging is stupid! They are illegal so to hold on to the freedom all human beings want they have to work(for crap money too!)
The figures on asylum and illegal immigration do need monitoring and control but it is really not much of an issue. It has been picked up on by right wing politicians and racists as a scare story that shouldn't concern you so much.
