I was homeless for over 3 years. Fundamentalists gave me sermons and useless reading materials. Atheists were kind and sometimes gave me a drink or two. The Catholic Church always treated me like a human being, never less than those that had more. They gave me food, money, eyeglasses, shelter and even healthcare. They usually gave me things without me even asking. If i did ask i got more than i had requested. Some people like to say that our Church is not scriptural. Read the the 25th chapter of the Gospel of St. Matthew and think about how Christ separates His followers from those that just claim His name. Peace be with you

Catholics are people just as anyone else, they eat and breathe, hurt and laugh like anyone else, what you really need to ask is what do you think of the Catholic Faith, which is more important than anyone individual or group, and as you are learning about it this would be more advantageous for you I think.
The Catholic church is not just a collection of Bishops and Priests or even the Pope, it is really the holy office of Apostolic teaching that comes down from the Apostles and Peter.
Most people think that the Vatican is the Catholic church but this is not totally correct, the Catholic church is that teaching body that holds the mandate from Christ to go out and preach the Gospel to all the nations,to forgive sin and to baptize in the name of the Father,Son and Holy Spirit.this is why there can be only one church because there is one Christ and one body of Christ, the term Catholic means `Universal` an adaption of the Greek word `Katholos`
Kath=according to and `Holos`meaning ,the Whole.
As long as we have a Pope and Bishops around him to preach the Gospel in the Apostolic traditon then we will always have `One holy catholic and apostolic church that Jesus said will never be overcome by the forces of hell, and in the last several centuries they sure have tried.
As for my Protestant Brothers and Sisters who have been fed so much untruth about the Catholic church and the endless urban myths that have been allowed to grow, may I respectively suggest that they read the Catechism of the Catholic church and then they will be much better placed to give opinions regarding it,personally I have studied Luther and Calvin and it has not done me any harm whatsoever, but now at least I know now not to go spouting comments that are false.

I love the catholics but I do not agree with the unbiblical teachings of the Catholic Church. For centuries the Roman Catholic Church had made its traditions superior in authority to the Bible. This resulted in many practices that were, in fact, contradictory to the Bible. Some examples are prayer to saints and/or Mary, the immaculate conception, transubstantiation, infant baptism, indulgences, and papal authority.
The Word of God is the only authority for the Christian faith. Traditions are valid only when they are based on Scripture and are in full agreement with Scripture. Traditions that are in contradiction with the Bible are not of God and are not a valid aspect of the Christian faith. Traditions that are based on, and are in agreement with God’s Word can be maintained. Traditions that are not based on, and/or are in disagreement with God’s Word, must be rejected.

I feel it is my obligation to respect other peoples right to choose whatever religion they see fit, and I also happen to have personal friends who are Catholic. However, In general the religion itself has always been a source of confusion for me. Whenever I read something to do with the Catholic church, even if its in my local paper or from their own literature, I can never wrap my mind around such words as Holy mother hail thee eternal blessed confraternity Eucharist blessed sacrament liturgical blah blah blah blah blah! Do you get my point? And all the rituals and repetitiveness in their prayers! I know from studying the Bible that all of these things are unscriptual and actually we are told as Christ followers to NOT partake in such behavior. If you need me to prove to you some of the scriptures that go against what Catholics practice, I will gladly edit my answer, just ask. But, as I said I do have close friends who were raised Catholics, and I love them as people, we just do not discuss religion.

Their beliefs- don't care, and I disagree with them.
Their practices- too ceremonial, and a bit too lavish for a religion that preaches to be humble.
The people- for the most part, they're not much different than me... they just practice religion, although there are a few who feel that being catholic puts them up on a pedestal... and theyre called as.sholes.
BUT In my opinion- your religion or beliefs don't define you as an ******. That tendency would be there either way- even if you were an atheist... it works the same way with race too. A person is a person- their personality is defined and judged by their actions.

I am not a Catholic, in fact, I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses. But I have read books by some Catholic Bible scholars that are very impressive and informative, scholars like Raymond Brown and Felix Just, SJ.
I don't have to agree with everything about a religion to give it its "propers."

well you know, we're human, we're sinners and sometimes we even go against our own church by being hipocrytical. To be a catholic is an everyday struggle.
But to make a comparison, I would rather end up in the hands of a practicing Catholic, like mother Teresa, than a practicing canibal.

The Catholic faith is the faith in which you can receive God's abundant grace through seven sacraments;
Baptism - the welcoming love of God that makes you a son or daughter
Reconciliation - the forgiving love of God
Eucharist - Jesus Christ giving Himself to us to nourish our soul
Confirmation - God's grace to strengthen us to deal with adversity in life
Matrimony - God's grace to unite ourselves to Him and another
Holy Orders - the grace to devote our entire life to Him
Annointing of the Sick - the grace to be healed in body and spirit.
The most amazing of these is the Eucharist, in which we receive Jesus Christ. When you receive the Eucharist, you are holding your Lord and Savior in your hands. And this can be done not just once per month or once per week, but EVERY DAY!!
The Catholic faith contains the wisdom and knowledge of God for the past 2000 years. We have ALL of the writings of the people who knew Jesus, not just the Gospels.

There are good Catholics and there are bad Catholics, same as anyone else. You should concern yourself with whether or not the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ.

Raised Catholic, myself.
I don't like how exclusive they are (I find protestants to be more inclusive... you have to BE Catholic via a lot of dogma, which sucks). And the Vatican stinks.
BUT, I generally find them to be the most education Christians, which is good. Notre Dame and Georgetown vs. Liberty U? You catch my drift??
