I have some programs on CDs (Reader Rabbit series for babies and toddlers). When I install them, they put some stuff on my hard drive, but I still need to insert the CD to run the program. Is there a way I can get everything onto my hard drive so I can run the programs without inserting the CD each time?

Somewhere out there may possibly be a way, but most likely it will have and cause problems. As inconvinient as it is to keep them on your CD, you may want to. Who over wrote the games/programs most likely made all the links direct so when you click to run it it looks for all the files needed in the root directory. If you want to try anyways, and easy way to find out is to go to your "file options" and make sure it shows hidden and system files/folders. Go to Windows Explorer (not internet) and copy every last file/folder into a folder on your PC. Now double click the .exe that runs the game/program and see if it starts with out a CD in.

I have used this type of install to avoid hang-ups with firewalls and antivirus programs, but have not yet tried to do what you are attempting. If you want to take a few minutes:

-First, create a folder on the desktop to hold the contents of the CD.
-Press and hold the shift key while you use your other hand to insert the CD.
-Continue depressing Shift until all lights stop blinking.
-Click on the CD and click Edit, then click Select all
(this will select hidden files).
-click Edit, Copy
-Open the folder you created above, right-click and paste.

Now, open the folder on the desktop. Locate the setup or install file.
Double-click to install.
Take your time at each step to see if you can install it to your hard drive.

If not, I tried.

you will no longer be able to. you're transforming into blended up. this technique on your laptop is the installation, no longer this technique. the laptop reads the disc to place in the utility. the only way is to have the unique and replica it.
