The room is beige/light tan(very neutral) and so is the ceiling. The living room is pretty big, open, has a medium height vaulted ceiling. I like warm colors and most of my furniture is wrought iron, marble (black and beige).

That sounds like my living room. I did an orange-red accent wall, and it looks awesome!

I would do a faux granite look in a variety of deco black/medium brown over a light tan base. Then top coat the faux with a satin clear coat. You might also find an accent color idea from a pillow or framed art matte that's in the room.

The beige and black, if true colors and not shaded in some hue of red/blue/green can be accented with any darker earthtone. You can also take that solid color in a flat paint and then lightly sponge roll in random strokes a clear, water-based satin finish that will give it an opalescent look.

I chose a wine red for mine, with a brown splotchy finish over that. On my cieling, it was a cream colour with a gold cloud-like finish. It accented my wrought iron and dark wood furniture beautifully and gave the room an exotic feel. I decorated with tons of red and gold throw pillows, it turned out like a dream, the most beautiful room I've ever seen. It's very eye catching and I've had every single person who saw it comment on how much they love the colour, it is stunning; very few people choose red for a wall. If you do choose a dark red, use a dark primer, mine was purple-ish, otherwise the color won't be as strong.

I have found that many times the accent color you are looking for is right there in front of you. Look at a throw pillow or floral arrangement in the room and find the color that pops out at you the most (without being outlandish of course) and run with it.

A lot of times some sort of red (Burgundy, wine, etc.), blue or green makes a very nice accent color.

I would go for a dark red/burgundy color, to make the room feel warm, cozy, and it makes an excellent focal point.
