yes, Also towing companies by law have to hold a public auction for any impounded car afte a certain amount of time. Talking to a friend of mine who owns his own company, no one ever shows up, so he "buys" the car for a ridiculously low price and sells it. But by law they have to advertise the auction in the local paper so check that.

You may get a good price, but auctions are problematic, in that you don't get to drive the car, you merely look it over. There are lots of problems that can't be seen, unless the car is driven. And if you can't drive the car, how can you make a reasonable offer, and get a properly running car? You can't, auctions are high risk for buyers, unless you are mechanically inclined, or don't mind high mileage, you don't get a good deal. You'll find alot of salvage/rebuilt cars at auctions, not just police auctions, where the cars normally are from drug raids, but from all auctions. Dealers are there to purchase cars at wholesale prices, then resell with high interest rates. You might find a good deal every once in a while, but it is very rare. You are better off buying from a private seller.

yes, but don't be fooled by those places that make you pay to view listings, or say that you'll be able to get an Escalade for $300. But yes the police do auction off vehicles just like a regular auto auction.

Of course they really work. Go to one, and see what happens before you decide to try to participate. Like any auction, the kind of price you can get depends on how many other people are interested in the same item. Be sure to check out what the financing requirements will be (how you will be expected to pay for the vehicle if you are the winning bidder.)

yeah, that's where i got my car. it works really well. there were one or two minor problems at first, but it didn't cost that much to fix, so we still got a good deal after fixing it. and not every car is going to have problems.

yup, the cars have been impounded for too many parking/speeding/etc violations there is not necessarily anything wrong with them..
although that also doesn't mean they're all in perfect condition.

check out the car/have it checked out before you pay for it.

yes...but don't sign up for the thing you may see on TV..the people who are supposed to give you a list of repossessed homes and cars..because they will sign you up for at least 3 other things that you don't want or need..and charge you for them.
